Problem with recuring events in Calendar
« on: November 03, 2017, 09:29:43 am »
Hello,

I really like AquaMail and it is the best MailApp I tried on my phone.

But unfortunately I have two problems:

I have Aquamail on two devices. On both decices I have different problems with recuring calender events from exchange.

Xperia X:
Shortly before an recuring event, mostly on the same day, the duration of the event is lost an the calendar item shows a duration of 30 min, even when the event is 1 hour or longer. A few days before the event, everything is fine and the duration is right shown. I wonder why at first everything ist right and the changes to the wrong length.

MediaPad P3lite:
If there is an exeption to an recuring event, e.g. one day it is half an hour later than normal, the calendar shows both, the normal recuring event, and the exeption. So you see the event two times and dont't know which one is right.
On the Xperia X this Problem doesn't exist.

What can I do here?

Many thanks!

Niggy

I strongly suspect that both are device specific issues...

The Huawei issue in particular has come up before and we (me and the user) spent a lot of time trying to diagnose, which went nowhere. I was not able to reproduce on the Huawei that I have here (not sure about the model, runs Android 6).

On the Sony - once Aqua stores an event in the phone's Calendar, it doesn't touch it. Do you make any changes perhaps through Outlook or some other way "as the event's time is approaching"? Anything at all, even an event's color?

Thanks for your quick reply.

The Huawei I have runs on Android 7.0. I will have a try with an other exchange Account which supports ActivSync and the Gmail App, if there the problem also exists.

The problem on the Sony also exists on the Huawei and on my old BQ Aquaris. So I think this maby is not a special Sony problem.

The change of the duration appears without any change in Outlook.
After your response, I tried a bit to reproduce the issue. When I start a new recurring event, duration 1 hour,  one time a week for six weeks, everything is fine. If I change the start time for one day of the recurring event, e.g. one hour later in the next week, then first after saving everything is correct for this exception. After a few seconds (I think when aqua syncs the event to the server) the event shrinks to 30 min duration. When you then open the details of the exception event, you only see a start time, the end time is lost. After this, it's not possible to repair this, the event only has a duration of 30 min, don't mather what you change. I can reproduce it with both exchange accounts I have on totaly different servers.

Perhaps you can reproduce it with this explanation?

Many thanks,

Niggy

Hmm... This does sound familiar.

There was a regression (bug) in 1.11, wrong duration of recurring events, fixed in 1.12-dev but not released until now.

Version 1.12 is in a "staged rollout" now - currently visible to 50% of all users.

If you don't have it, could you please grab the current 1.12 from the "development builds" section of this forum? It's same exact .apk as in Google Play.

Oh and just to be clear:

- The recurring event is originally created on the server? In Calendar app and synced up by Aqua Mail? Probably doesn't matter?

- But the exception you're creating in Calendar app, correct?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I will have a try with the 1.12 from the development builds.

- It doesn't matter if the recurring event is originally created on the server or on the phone. It's the same behavior.
- It also doesn't matter, if the exception is created on the server or in the calendar app. Even when you have an meeting invitation from an other person, and this person made an exception over an invitation update, it's the same issue.

Just tried both ways (creating exception on server vs. in Calendar app) + Office 365 server -> could not reproduce.

My recurring event was 2 hours duration, and I edited its start time in both cases. Worked fine.

This is our current 1.12 - so maybe it was related to the regression / bug in 1.11 that I mentioned above.

Fingers crossed :) but please let me know how it works for you.

Now I tried the 1.12 (with an outlook.com account, it's the same issue with my companies exchange):

- First nothing changed, the exceptions still had a duration of 30 minutes
- I tried to sync the calendar completely new, so I unchecked the calendar sync for the exchange account and then rechecked it new in Aqua.
- Every event was new synced. First, everything was fine, but a few minutes later, I think about 10 minutes, the issue is here again, all exceptions only have a duration of 30 minutes.
- I tried an other calendar app (DigiCal) to view the events, there it's the same issue.
- One thing is interesting: In the normal google Calendar App, it shows only 30 minutes in the daily overview, but when I open the event, there you see the right beginning and end. When you open the item in DigiCal, there the Beginning and End Time is the same Time, both times e.g. 20:00 for all wrong elements.
- On the Server, everything is fine (in Outlook on the PC and on outlook.com on the webpage)

Brrrrrrrrrr

What's the device / make / model / Android version? I wasn't able to reproduce yesterday.

But really to make any progress - I'd need to see this in the app's debug log.

Please see: http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=232

Under: Creating a log if something doesn’t work right

You will need to enable "raw session data" as well.

With logging enabled, please create a new recurring event (in Calendar so you're doing app -> server and wait for that that sync, or on the server, so you're doing server -> app).

Then create an exception and wait for that to "go bad".

Finally send the log to support / at / aqua-mail / dot com.

Thanks!

Is this still a know issue? I have a Huawei MediaPad M5 running Android 8.0 that displays the same very annoying bug: when an exception is made to a recurring event on Exchange, it is not captured accurately on my device (instead, I get two listings at both the recurring time and the exceptional time; if I try to delete the incorrect entry on my device, the event disappears from the Exchange calendar). Any advice?

See the other thread, I have the same issue. It is in so far not a device specific problem as other apps for O365 sync show the same event correctly.
