I agree with the points made above, the auto hiding of the quoted text is very frustrating. In almost every reply email sent the user will need to view the original to ensure they are replying completely and accurately to the original email. Therefore having to click the dots, then click back up to the text (as cursor falls to the bottom) is really annoying.

I get there are advantages of the new editor, and that perhaps auto showing would cause some crashes. But can we not have the option for this and if it crashes that is our problem (as with other users I don't think I can remember the previous editor ever crashing due to this in many years of continuous use on multiple devices).

I'd rather take the odd crash once every few years (if any at all) than the process I have to do with every email reply now!

Re: can we not have the option for this

There is a setting - just turn off "use new editor" in app settings under "composing and sending" please.

OK thanks, that's obviously worked.

Still do think this should be changed for future updates - is such a fundamental principle of replying to emails to be able to refer to them!!

Not sure I agree about it being a "fundamental principle" - I mean just look at Gmail app and web mail - used by a billion of people or more so it can't be *all that wrong*...

... although their current "design update" makes me want to poke my eyes out with a rusty spoon :) so they're not always right.

It's really a "more streamlined" UI -- hit reply, type your reply and hit Send, done.

But -- there is a setting to turn off the new editor! So even if we end up doing nothing in the new editor about this, or end up doing something which again isn't liked by 100.00% of existing users -- that setting is there and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

Glad to hear that the "new editor" can be disabled in "foreseeable future". Thank you.

We did a private survey among friends. Of 11 users 8 deactivated the new editor, the other 3 thought that the new look was given and did not know that it could be deactivated.

BTW: All of them (including me) always reply "TOFU" without editing inline the quoted text.
