How to remove thread when reply or forward
« on: April 10, 2018, 10:59:42 am »
Aquamail seems to have updated. I used to be able to reply or forward a message and choose to not include the previous messages/thread.

Now I get an annoying 3 dots. All this does is expand the text but no way to simply remove it. I have to select all the text manually and delete it

Am I missing something?

Just found the answer

https://www.aqua-mail.com/forum/index.php?topic=6533.0

However I hope the devs take note of this as often the option to use the 'old' editor is a temporary offering. Being able to remove the thread is an important option for many of us

Yes, you are not alone.  ;)

I also need the "old" editor urgently.

Do not expand the hidden "quoted" text.

Just set the cursor behind / on the next line (below) of the "(...)" and tap BACKSPACE: The entire thread will be removed instantly  8)

Thank you @mikeone.

Kindly allow me to quote the FAQ:

---
Version 1.14 has a new text editor (on the compose screen) with these new features suggested by users:

– Lists (with bullets or numbers)
– Paragraph alignment (left / center / right)
– When replying, editing the “original” preserves all formatting, even images

This new editor cannot have a black background for technical reasons, so in the dark theme we made the background a “muted” light gray (the light themes use pure white).

When replying or forwarding, the original message is shown as “(…)”

If you just type your new text and tap Send, the original message will be inserted where the “(…)” placeholder was.

To delete the original message just put the cursor on the next line and tap Backspace on the soft keyboard – i.e. this works just like deleting text.

To “expand” the original message for editing just tap the “( … )”. This will keep all the formatting of the original and it’ll be editable as well.

Hi, is it possible in new editor to have the quoted text expanded by default?

Re: Thanks. Will be there an option in future?

Undecided. There is a technical issue here:

- Original message may be really large
- Too large for editing code (in Chrome) to handle
- Which may make it crash -> making it impossible to reply to / forward this message
- Showing the original "collapsed" -> avoids this, if it crashes when you try expand, it's still possible to reply / forward without expanding

What exactly are you interested in?

Editing?

Or quickly deleting?

We have some ideas about improving the controls - maybe show an "X" to quickly delete, maybe a checkbox, undecided but we're thinking about possible improvements.

I like the way it's done in Samsung Email with a checkbox (very similar to Aqua's old editor) - but although this aspect is nice, it causes other UI issues.

In the "old" editor it works like a charm, hmm...

I always just want to see the quoted message while replying above. (This is what many users do).

In new editor it is not comfortable, but complicated.

After pushing the reply-button there are these steps to do everytime:
New editor:
1. Tap on [...]-button to expand the quoted message
2. Since the cursor mark jumps from first line into second line, I have to manually put it back into first line
3. Now I can start to write.

Old editor:
1. Just write  :) - like in other mail clients (because quoted message is visible and cursor mark is in first place)

This is why I (and some others I know) need the old editor.

No. In the old editor - the "original" content is not editable. Apples to oranges.

In the old editor the plain text part is visible immediately (and editable if needed).

That's enough for the very common use case called "TOFU" (text over full quote):
Replying on top of the quoted message

All our business partners (940 ca.) always (!) use it. No exception. ;)

However, the "old editor" will loose all existing HTML formatting when the user starts to edit the quoted message.

So, the 'new editor' is technically an improvement.

In the new editor the quoted original will be included even if you don't expand it.

The old editor not being able to edit the original's formatting was a major user complaint which the new editor addressed.

---

Just had a thought... Maybe I should stop wasting everyone's time with new responses about the new editor.

To summarize (again) - the old editor was far from perfect, the new editor addressed a bunch of those complaints / requests...

There are people who prefer the old editor for a variety of reasons, that's OK, no hurt feeling.

There are things we could improve in the new editor still, hopefully we will, over time.
