Gmail setup
« on: February 27, 2013, 10:50:19 am »
All accounts set up ok on AquaMail pro except for Gmail. I have enabled imap on gmail webpage but still get errors. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Could you please post the settings. I have changed the default incoming and outgoing server setting to imap.gmail.com for incoming and smtp.gmail.com for outgoing and now dont know what the default setting were but they did not work anyway. any ideas?

The app has an automatic preset for @gmail.com.

It would help if you posted the error message you're getting.

Two wild guesses:

1 - If using two step verification, you will need to generate an account specific password for my app, and use that, rather than your "master" gmail password

2 - Gmail wants you to pass a captcha test, or whatever it is they use for verification... This happens once in a while, based on some sort of automated logic.

Correct, with 2-step verification on you need to set up an application specific password to log in to your Gmail.
Unfortunately using Google itself to find a solution isn't very useful. I recommend you add this proviso to the initial start up of Aqua Mail on the phone. I set up a new phone and have wasted about an hour looking for the solution.

Otherwise a great piece of software!

Um, I can't detect why a password was not accepted -- whether it's wrong or the user has two-factor enabled.

Surely, since two-factor is off by default, when someone goes to enable it for the first time, he takes a bit of time to learn about it, no? I mean it's all right there on Google's help pages?

PS - I do have info on this in the FAQ.
