As the heading mentions, I'm a Pro user and I'm on Android Oreo on a OnePlus 5T, I have tried setting up a different notification sound for each of my email accounts, but it does not seem to work other then the main account, all other accounts show the same notification sound but when an email comes in, it's silent. I have tried all the options I found on the net including the Modi youtube video, including using special options for this account, but when I click on the sounds it only takes me to a section about high or low and no actual choices for choosing the sound choice.

Please advise, I have since removed all other accounts for now, to try suggestions from scratch on a 2nd account here. Let me know what else you need to know from me. Below are all the options I tried to no avail.

Don't get me wrong, I love aquamail, but this seems to be such a simple setup to do, yet there are so many things to do to get a different notification for each account. Why not just have an account setting separate for each account, seems to me to be the easiest way.

I've also tried this and it does not work, see below

Yes you can long press on an account -> choose Special settings ("Special" means "override app level settings just for this account") then tap into "notifications".

And then on that screen please enable the "use special settings for this account" toggle and set your account level settings.

Hi,

Per Google requirements, notification "appearance" settings are now in Phone Settings, provided by Android. This applies to Android 8.0 and newer and Aqua Mail 1.18 and newer.

It's the same in all or nearly all apps (definitely Gmail, Twitter, others which had recent updates).

Phone Settings have options for sound, vibration on/off.

There is no option for LED color (Google forgot, manufacturers don't seem to care).

There is no option for vibration pattern.

Some phones don't have an option for LED on/off. Some phones don't have an option to choose a particular sound, only on/off, using the "global" notification sound setting (which can be changed, but will affect all modern apps).

On some phones the LED will only flash if there is a sound or vibration (doesn't make sense to me, but this is Google). Some phones have a well hidden setting to "pulse the LED", some do not.

All this mess is completely out of our control. Notification appearance settings are now provided by Android (and can vary from device to device) and cannot be overridden by apps.

Google is strong-arming developers into this, it's not optional (if an app does not opt into the new scheme - it's not possible to release updates to Play since November 1, 2018... and we do want to).

If your phone is missing some options (e.g. a way to choose a sound) or some of them don't work - please contact your phone manufacturer's support and let them know. Them and Google are the only ones who can fix this.

How interested they are is another matter, but there is hope since this affects all apps now, and your phone manufacturer can fix this in "their" Android "flavor" without waiting for Google's next Android update.

So that I understand this basically and quickly. So if I edit the notification sounds directly from the Android Gmail app per account, then that same sound for the chosen email account will sound the same on Aquamail ?? Or are you saying that any 3rd party app now that has a notification sound, will use the Android default sound ??

No connection between Aqua Mail and Gmail apps what-so-ever.

What he's saying is:

Before we implemented Google's new requirements for notifications -

-  notification appearance options were *in* Aqua Mail and we could do anything we wanted (LED color, vibration patterns, which sound to use).

Now (since the "optimization for Android 8.0") - notification appearance options are *not* in apps but rather in phone settings, provided by your phone, and the UI is identical for all apps (which was one of Google's goals).

And on some devices, manufactures remove the ability to select a particular sound. Intentional or oversight, if it's not there then you can't choose a sound.

Please contact your phone manufacturer and ask them to fix this.

Mostly this. First off, not all third party apps have enacted this Google requirement. If they don't within a certain time frame they won't be able to update via the play store. Or perhaps they'll be banned from the store. I'm not clear on which. But Google is making it difficult for developers who don't/won't comply with the new "feature."

And you're not limited to use -the- default sound. You can use only those sounds which are built in. Which you can reach via AM by long pressing on the account  > special settings > message notifications > manage notifications. That will bring up Android's 'app notifications' window, which clicking on 'sound' shows the built in sounds. Any one of which you can select and use in AM. You can set a different sound for each account by following those instructions for each account.

And this is phone specific too.

As per Google, there is supposed to be a way to choose a particular sound.

But on some phones - there is only an on/off and no "which sound" setting - clearly wrong, but will take time to be fixed (if it ever does).
