Is it possible to edit a message in reply?
« on: February 21, 2018, 07:41:53 am »
I find Aqua mail soooo illogical that surely I am overlooking things. Maybe someone can help me make sense of its chaotic GUI.

1. Where in Settings can I configure the app to launch with Inbox?

2. Where in settings can I make "Sent," "Drafts" and "Trash" or "Deleted" folders visible and accessible?

3. What is the secret to editing a message when forwarding? Surely Aqua Mail lets the user delete the Sender's e-mail address when forwarding. I do not want to spread the original author's email address over the Internet.

If these three things are not possible then the app may be described as having all the features except the most fundamental ones. I build web pages, write scripts and am a technical writer for software developers; but I am at a total loss when attempting to execute these basic e-mail functions in Aqua Mail.

Before throwing in the towel, I would like to give the app a chance. Can anyone answer at least one of the three questions above?

Hi Djard,
Welcome to the forum. First of all, all three things are possible with AquaMail (of course :) )

Overall, there is a "Search" function in the Settings (just tap on the 'magnifying glass' in the upper right corner).

1. > Settings > tap on Search (magnifying glass) > insert "start" and you will get the search result as shown in the screenshot > tap on 'Start the app in" > the App directs you into the right category (in this case it's "Look and feel") > scroll down to the item 'Start the app in' (near the beginning of the last third) and tap on it > select the desired account > choose 'Inbox'

2. go back to the app's main window (so-called "Account list") > long press on the desired account name... there you will find the "account-specific options" :) > Options and folders > Folders > let the list refresh (just wait for 10 to 30 seconds) > tap on the desired folder name > choose an appropriate option (e.g. for 'Sent': Sync with Sent folder)

Note: Every folder which is 'synced' will be visible in the account's "Folder list". You can expand / collapse the account's folder list by tapping an the respective account name.

Note 2: You can find more information on this topic on the app's FAQ-page (search for "How do I access server side folders"... near the top)
http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=227

3. Please install the very last dev-build to get the app version with the "New message editor"
-> https://www.aqua-mail.com/forum/index.php?topic=6426.0
When answering or forwarding a message just tap on the green rectangle "..." and the original message will be visible > just go to the appropriate place and edit the text.

I hope these information will be helpful to dive into the 'infinite' settings of this great app.

Enjoy AquaMail.

In addition to what @mikeone wrote above - you can just use Menu -> Forward (anonymous) back in message view, instead of the usual "forward" icon.

This will omit the original sender's name from the forward headers (who wrote what and when).

In addition to what @mikeone wrote above:

If the account is set up using POP3 - then as I'm sure you know POP3 does not provide access to server folders, only to Inbox.

Therefore, those "standard" folders cannot be set to sync with the server - but each of them will show on the app's main screen if there is anything in it.

If your account is set up as IMAP - the app is usually able to "map" those special server folders during account setup, but sometimes it can't (e.g. those folder names in a national language, and server not reporting which is which). In the latter case (and it sounds like that's what actually happened) please follow the procedure given by mike.
