Um, in Google Play it still says "ES Global" as the "developer", not Cheetah Mobile.
But yeah, somewhat surprising to see "memory optimization" in a file manager. More features more appeal (and more trouble)?
From what I've read, that feature can be switched off in the paid version.
That's a funny (if not funky) business model: you pay to disable crapware that you
voluntarily install for free.
Here is one of the
articles (I don't know how accurate it is) that states that ES Explorer includes DU Charge Booster.
If that's true, it would mean connection of ES Global to a different, Hong-Kong-based company. So, maybe the claims I saw before about connection to Cheetah Mobile were incorrect. At that time (probably 1.5 years ago), - the articles I read (on credible android websites) sounded convincing. But at this time, I am not finding any that would convince me.
But there are plenty of posts, articles, and ratings that suggest that ES Explorer is not what it used to be, and probably should not be trusted.
