Syncing problem
« on: May 12, 2017, 10:52:33 pm »
Hello,
I have a problem with the synchronization of my mail accounts. After the device is started, synchronization is performed twice or three times, and then no longer. I have created two mail accounts in AM (Yahoo.de and gmx.de, both imap) and the synchronization should be done every hour. What am I doing wrong?
My device is a Samsung Galaxy S6 with Android 7.

Doze Mode.

Please see the FAQ near the end.

The relevant FAQ item is:
"Persistent network errors or the app not checking mail (any phone, with specifics for Android 6+ Doze Mode, Xiaomi MIUI, Huawei)"

Thanks for pointing to the FAQ. I have read the FAQ and reviewed the advice before I asked my question. I have no app to optimize the battery or memory. AM is whitelisted from Doze mode. But the problem remains. Are there any other ways to fix the error?
Greetings from Solingen/Germany

Samsung S6 / S7 have their own "memory optimizer" -- "Smart <something>", based on Clean Master. If you use that please turn off or whitelist (if possible).

Or we could be seeing the effects of the phone losing network connectivity when it's "asleep" -- not supposed to happen, but I imagine it could?

You can also collect a debug log (please see below) over a sufficient time period and send the log to support / at / aqua-mail / dot com.

It is correct that the memory-optimizer comes with the Samsung S6 / S7 is from clean master. It can not be switched off (or I have not found the switch yet). This memory-optimizer is real crap. I have AM there whitelisted, first without success.

But I think I've now found the error. It is an app named ES Datei Explorer (ES File Explorer). The app was once a really good file manager. Meanwhile, however, many superfluous and useless functions have been added. Among other things, a memory manager. I have removed this app and AM works perfectly. After reinstalling the app, all problems occur again. Thus the cause has been found.

I cannot find the link right now, but I remember reading that ES Explorer was purchased a couple of years ago or so, by Cheetah Mobile.
Presumably, after the big negative reaction from QuickPic users (which was purchased and ruined by Cheetah Mobile earlier), they did not put their name on the app, but changed the developer's name from EStrongs to ES Global (which is probably a subsidiary or a division of Cheetah Mobile)
You can find numerous pages describing the problems with ES File Explorer in the past 1-2 years.

That's why my pre-acquisition versions of QuickPic and ES File Explorer are not updated.

Um, in Google Play it still says "ES Global" as the "developer", not Cheetah Mobile.

But yeah, somewhat surprising to see "memory optimization" in a file manager. More features more appeal (and more trouble)?

It would be good if such apps as ES File Explorer would be listed in the FAQs. This would make troubleshooting easier.

From what I've read, that feature can be switched off in the paid version.
That's a funny (if not funky) business model: you pay to disable crapware that you voluntarily install for free.

Here is one of the articles (I don't know how accurate it is) that states that ES Explorer includes DU Charge Booster. If that's true, it would mean connection of ES Global to a different, Hong-Kong-based company. So, maybe the claims I saw before about connection to Cheetah Mobile were incorrect. At that time (probably 1.5 years ago), - the articles I read (on credible android websites) sounded convincing. But at this time, I am not finding any that would convince me.
But there are plenty of posts, articles, and ratings that suggest that ES Explorer is not what it used to be, and probably should not be trusted.
