New update interfering with roadrunner.com pop account
« on: March 27, 2017, 09:31:48 pm »
Hello,
Ever since the new update was installed, I am having an issue on my desktop getting Outlook 2010 to access my roadrunner.com mail account. I can'f figure out why that would be, but given that the issue stared on the day AquaMail updated I have to think it is a related issue. Outlook returns an error message that the operation timed out waiting for the pop server. I am NOT techy at all, but my thought process is that AquaMail is messing up the ability to connect? Is this possible?
Thank you for your great software, and response.
Nadine

oh, and I should add that I have already reached out to both Spectrum/roadrunner and Microsoft, each of whom blamed the other.
thank you.

I know what was in the update and what wasn't. Nice for RR to put the blame on someone else.

For RR, Aqua Mail's preset is to use IMAP, which by design allows simultaneous access to a mail account from several devices or mail apps.

But please check: long press on the account -> options and folders -> you should see "IMAP options" and not "POP3 options" (indicating the account is set up to use IMAP and not POP3).

Now if the account is set up in Outlook as POP3 -- well, it should not cause any errors either, in theory, but POP3 is not designed for simultaneous access from multiple apps. Most can deal just fine though, but since your account is not --

-- I would investigate switching how it's set up in Outlook from POP3 to IMAP.

If both apps are set up to use IMAP and not POP3 already, well...

And if both are IMAP -- since you're not getting any errors in Aqua Mail (or at least you didn't mention them) -- I'd try a different mail app on Windows, just as a test, so see if it's really RR or Outlook.

There are many, and of those, many are free. I'd consider Thunderbird as first choice. Just as a test if for nothing else.

AquaMail is working flawlessly. Aqua Mail is set to IMAP and Roadrunner to POP. I have had them set that way since I started using AquaMail (about 3 years). And trust me, given another choice I would ditch Spectrum/TWC/Roadrunner in a heartbeat.

I will try another mail client.
Thank you for the response.
