Delete from ALL
« on: March 15, 2017, 05:16:00 pm »
My Aquamail is linked to Gmail.

I would like to have access to the 'All' folder that I see when logging in to Gmail with my webbrowser.

Perfect would be that when I delete something using Aquamail, the files isn't only deleted from my inbox but also from the "All" folder.

Is that possible? If not it's a request :-)

To access "All Mail" via IMAP (in Aquamail or any other mail client), you need to enable that "label" to be accessible via IMAP (I believe it is disabled by default). You do that in Gmail configuration when logged in into Gmail in your web browser: https://mail.google.com/mail/#settings/labels .

Just in case: Be advised that deleting messages from "All Mail" directly will (or may, depending on the settings) delete the messages permanently right away, without placing them into Trash. You can read about that e.g. here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/gmail/eEjQN_M9hQ4 .

The label is set to 'show' and 'show in IMAP' , but it doesn't show up in Aquamail.

Yeah, I know using All is dangerous. I would prefer not to see and use it.
But when I delete what's in Trash I would like Aquamail also delete from All.

Did you read and follow the instructions from the FAQ item "How do I access server side folders?"

AFAIK, it is GMail's functionality that "deleted" messages do not get deleted from "All Mail".
This has nothing to do with Aquamail per se.

No... but now I did and the "As needed" functionality is good for me.
I didn't even know that long press menu existed.... :-\
Yeah, shame on me!!!

I know and I agree.
My point is that someone being able to design and program the great Aqua Mail, surely is skilled enough add that functionality.
So too clarify: When I delete from my Trash Aqua Mail should delete from the Trash as it currently does, and find the matching message in All and delete that as well.

Also good, perhaps even better is a "Find orphans" option.
That's best explained by my personal situation.
I have about 100 emails I want to keep. 300+ emails are in "All Mail".  That means 200+ of them I would like to be permanently deleted. I'm fully aware I can do that manually but it's very time consuming and  prone to mistakes.
(my mistakes, not Aqua Mail's)

The "delete immediately" IMAP command in any folder is treated by Gmail as "remove the label that corresponds to the label, and keep the message intact otherwise" (there are exceptions, but as a rule, that's how it is).

It's how their server behaves, how they wanted it to work, and so that's how it does.
