Data usage.
« on: February 18, 2017, 01:36:59 am »
I've been using this app for ages now, all of a sudden today I get a message from my provider saying I'm approaching my mobile data limit!

Check app usage in my settings and Aqua mail has used over 6gb of data today!

I've un installed it for now.

Any pointers as to what could be causing this anomaly?

I've also noticed what seems rather high data usage.  I do have Five accounts (Two Exchange , Two IMAP, and a POP) so I guess I convinced myself it was OK, but yea, +1

Checked my data usage statistics through Android and its even been doing it on wifi, which I'm not so bothered about.

Since it's also happening on Wi-Fi, please activate AquaMail then send a debug logfile to the support. You can find the information in the FAQ/help section
Ok, will do so later on.

Thanks

I used 3G Watchdog from the Play Store  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog

Pretty useful app.

Not much point when I can monitor it from the android OS. But thanks anyway.

Never had this kind of problem.  Maybe your settings are opted in to have all the attachments downloaded right now and fetching all the emails from the account? I'm using only one month per account (having 3 of them, 2 are Ms exchange with push) and having only some MB's per day.
Try to check that first.

I've never had this problem before and have not changed setting, and don't get or send many emails.
I'm using another app for now until I get more time to look into it.

In general, if the "messages to sync" setting is high, the app has to do more work (still 6 GB in a few days for an AOL account is just way our of this world). The default for IMAP accounts is "50", please long press on the account -> options and folders -> check "messages to sync".

Yes something could be wrong in the app, but I've also seen users set "messages to sync" to "thousands" and mail check schedule to "every 5 minutes", and well...

For Exchange:

Please check the above setting too. For Exchange specifically, a "messages to sync" set to date based value (e.g. "14 days" or "21 days", not "25 messages" or "50 messages") is more efficient in the long run, but requires more work up front on the first mail check, esp. if the mailbox has a lot of (say tens of thousands) of messages.
