If I understand correctly your Italian, you are asking if there is a way to leave all messages marked unread on the server with an IMAP connection (account).

In case of IMAP, all messages on all devices and the server have exactly the same status. Think of your device being a window into what you have on the server, and when you change something on the device, you are actually making the same changes on the server (and vice-versa). So, you always have a 1:1 correspondence between the messages on the server and on the device (and all devices/e-mail programs).

So, if you want the messages to remain unread on the server, you need to disable them being marked read on the device. For that: Aquamail Settings -> Message View -> Mark messages as read -> "Never automatically".

You could remove the account from AquaMail (long press, choose from popup) and add it back in, using Manual button, and making sure to use POP3.

With POP3, you'll lose:

- Push mail
- Access to folders
- Separate download of text vs. attachments

You'd also lose:

- Two-way read/unread sync with the mail server

But maybe that's exactly what you want...

Basically, with POP3 each mail app tracks the read/unread state of each message separately from the mail server and other mail apps.

Please also know that fetching messages with POP3 (just fetching) often makes mail servers mark them as read, and you will see this in *other* mail apps if they use IMAP, or in *web mail*.

... which would basically defeat the purpose.
 

(So, maybe before deleting IMAP account, one should create a POP3 account and check the behavior of the server.)

If he wanted messages "marked unread on the server", it wouldn't matter what the other mail app is.  (I suspect he wants to see them unread in the Webmail interface).

Yes, if it's web mail, then yes, POP3 won't help. You're right.

But then again maybe this mail service has a setting for whether it marks as read after a POP3 fetch (one very large mail service here in Russia has that, others don't).
