Error getting folder list: Network error
« on: May 14, 2016, 05:58:16 pm »
Hi,

I have an Acer Chromebook and Aqua mail Pro app on my HTC One M8 Android phone where I use it to access my work email which is an Outlook Exchange account where it . I was really happy to find that Aqua mail is available for Chromebooks and i installed it.

I am having though a problem where I can't see all my folders which are created under my inbox, see screenshot uploaded, how can I actually access this? What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Marios

It looks like a network error. I don't  know what causes it, iit doubt it is Aquamail 's fuult;could be due to ChromeOS' Android emulator.
Did you try again?
Can you see folders for the same account on your phone?

Hi,

Yes the android app works perfect, it is just the Chromebook app that has this problem only.

Any suggestions?

I've never used Chromebook, but from the previous discussions here, I read that Android emulator under Chrome OS (that's the environment in which Aquamail and other Android apps are running) is rather limited and not complete, with various problems occurring for various apps. That is likely the reason why you are experiencing this problem.
I suspect that some Android function/library that Aquamail relies on does not work properly.

Kostya, Aquamail developer might have some additional ideas.
But ultimately, I'd say you can try contacting Chromebook support asking if they are going to improve the Android emulator.

Repored to Google, also happens with Cloud Magic (the "flagship" app for this technology, running Android on Chrome OS, Google's devs were involved)

https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=589927

Used to work fine until about Chrome ~45 or so. As you can see, there is no action on that ticket.

I'm seeing it too on my desktop Chrome (not Chrome OS).

There is nothing magical or strange about Aqua's networking code, it's standard Android / Java and as you already know, it works fine on *real* Android platform.

But the *emulated* Android on Chrome OS is... shall we say "hit and miss".

I now resent having bought into ARC (Android on Chrome).

It sort of works but there are too many issues and seems Google's not interested in fixing them, and there is no vision of where it's supposed to go

(Other than the rumored plans to make all of Google Play inventory available on Chrome OS -- and then we might get some traction on the issues, if other network-dependent apps end up having same issues, which I think they will...)

Official: Google Play is coming to Chrome OS

https://chrome.googleblog.com/2016/05/the-google-play-store-coming-to.html

I guess this means that it'll be possible to install any Android app, including AquaMail, and the conversion / packaging will be done by Google's automated processing, not me (as is the case with the current version in Chrome Web Store).

Wonder what this means for the issues I described above.

Maybe just a bunch of negative 1-star reviews.

Hey,

Thank you for the update. Lets see what this brings to our Chromebooks...

It seems that my device will be supported later in 2016, not currently...

Right now, with current Chrome (50-something) and ARC Welder, it's worse than ever before:

I'm unable to run AquaMail at all. It can't open its database.

The system log (of "Android inside Chrome") has errors like this:

 NOT IMPLEMENTED: chmod("/data/data/org.kman.AquaMail/databases/Messages.sqldb", 0660)

This is a Linux kernel function "below" Android which is required by Android's database code, which is in turn "below" AquaMail.

At least this basic part used to work.

In addition, there are crash popups about "Google Play Services" and the system log has something about "invalid OAUTH2 client_id", appears related to the built-in Contacts app.

So looks like (at least) processing with ARC Welder just plain doesn't work anymore.

Bottom line is: yes, I agree, "wait and see" is all we can do, it looks like...

I just published 1.6.2-dev6.5.2 to Chrome Web Store.

- Fixed the issue mentioned above, app not being usable at all

- Enabled access to Contacts

Don't know if this worked before on Chrome OS, but it didn't in Chrome.

Now I'm able to pick or autocomplete my Google contacts on the app's compose screen and built-in contact picker.

( and Exchange contacts were already provided by the app itself, the change is for your Google contacts )

- No network errors

Tried accounts at: Gmail, Hotmail, Office 365, Mail.ru

May have been related to the above (ARC trying to sync Contacts and failing, and then Google "throttling" the app's network access... just a guess...)

Wow.

Who could have thought that the app's own network access would be throttled by this "Android on Chrome" trying to sync contacts and failing.

And speaking of contacts, any changes?

Or were you already able to autocomplete / etc. in AquaMail from your ChromeOS's Contacts (I assume there is such a thing)?
