Notification Issues
« on: April 09, 2016, 11:14:52 pm »
I just started using AquaMail  a couple of days ago in hopes of ditching the Gmail app completely.  Everything about AquaMail seems superior to Gmail except how it handles notifications:

1.  Action Buttons.  One problem I have encountered so far is with the action buttons on lock screen notifications.  I have text enabled for the actions "Delete or Archive" and "Move to Spam" and  "Move to Archive".   But because of the way the actions are worded, all I see on the notification is "Move To..." for each action.   Thus, I can't see what the action is.

Gmail labels its actions very simply: "Delete" or "Spam" or "Archive", etc.  Instead of "Move to Delete" or "Move to Spam" or "Move to Archive" or "Mark Read".    Is it possible to edit the wording to shorten the action titles so the functions can appear?

2. No "Reply" action.   I would like to be able to reply to an email via the notification but AquaMail offers no such reply action.  Thus I have to open AquaMail, and then open the email to reply to it.  Whereas, Gmail has a reply option right on the notification--click on reply and it opens up a reply compose window.  Can't AquaMail do this?

3.  No message previews for 2+ notifications.  All I get is sender and subject.  Gmail displays message previews for all of its notifications.

4. No custom Contacts identity image for all notifications if I have more than 2+ notifications.  If I only have one notification, the contact image I have associated with that address shows up fine.   However the problem starts for any subsequent notifications that come through.  The contact image for those notifications changes to a generic AquaMail icon, even though they a contact image assigned.

Notification #1 = Contact Image
Notifications #2 - #5 = AquaMail Icon,

No such problems  when using gmail notifications.  All notifications #1-#5 show contacts images, if they have one assigned.

Are there any settings that I am overlooking to fix any of the above issues?   If not, can any of these issues be resolved in the future?  I'd love to dump Gmail altogether but because of the issues above, I am stuck continuing to use its notification service while also using AquaMail for everything else.  By the way, I use Nils Lock Screen Notifications and it works flawlessly with gmail so it seems the issues are on AquaMail's end.

Thanks

1 - AquaMail has three ways of deleting messages, so the labels have to be more explicit than "Delete". And then the others sort of go with that.

2 - Right, sorry.

Gmail, as far as I know, always preloads entire text of each message when it checks mail -- so it's there, ready, when you hit Reply.

3 - Gmail displays message previews for all of its notifications

Um, never seen it do that.

Attaching a screenshot from an Android 6 phone.

Now, Android N will have (already has in the alpha) per-message "cards", and Aqua supports this already.

4 - Same as #3.

2 - Right, sorry.  Darn :(

3 - Gmail displays message previews for all of its notifications

Um, never seen it do that.  Yeah, it displays the notifications and when you select one it moves it to the top of the list and a preview drops down--for each notification.

Now, Android N will have (already has in the alpha) per-message "cards", and Aqua supports this already. I have Android KitKat 4.4.on a LG 41c/Ultimate 2 phone

4 - Same as #3. I get the per message cards (assuming card means separate notifications) but what I don't get for notifications 2-5 is the correct identity image (assuming that is the correct terminology).  Gmail displays them fine but AquaMail doesn't

Looks like I'm 0 for 4 on my wish list. :'(   But I understand.  No biggie.  As long as my phone's memory holds up (I have about 190 MBs to spare), I can use both Gmail and AquaMail together without issue.

This is my first smart phone so right now I want (and think I need) every function known to mankind.   I'm sure this will end once the newness wears off as I use it more.

Thanks for responding.

I've used Android for a long time and never seen "per-message cards" from Gmail on any of my phones or tablets, Android 1.5 to 6.0.

Has anyone? I mean anyone else other than the OP?

Maybe you're using some sort of "notification enhancement" app?
