You are correct, at this time, this app does not sync Exchange contacts with Android Contacts.
There is access to server contacts (their names and email addresses) from the compose screen, with search even, but no sync with Contacts app.
Yes, it's one of the things I'd like to add, among many, but can't give any sort of estimate when it might happen. There are always too many things to work on...
