Part_1 Message That Does Not Open
« on: August 20, 2016, 07:31:03 pm »
Several of my emails are coming in with a Part_1 attachment of 0.0b that cannot be opened. It states:

No application(s) found to open the attachement, whose type is: multipart/alternative.

Identified as: content://org.kman.aquamail.datax.attachment/34530.

I've seen other posts in the forum about this with no fix. I don't know how to refresh the message, I don't see where I can compact the database, and I don't see where to do a backup before reinstalling the app. I'm using IMAP with max settings. db is 3.5gb.

Please help. This is the only app I've found that uses a smart folder to handle IMAP, and I NEED this program to work. So far, this is the ONLY issue, and it appears to be random.

IMAP is being handled via a godaddy account.

Thanks.

I just checked: I looked at several messages that are sent as "multipart/alternative", and they all show in Aquamail just fine.

While I don't know the entire history (and I saw in the other thread where you posted that Kostya had looked at that OP's problem some 3 years ago), I wonder if in your case it is somehow due to your HUGE size of the Aquamail database: 3.5GB is a lot for an Android device.
(And a pure speculation, but I suspect there could be some Android's internal problem with a database file approaching 3.5-4GB range due to addressing issues on a 32-bit system.)

If I were you and experienced this type of problems, I'd reduced the number of messages synced and cached, then compacted the database (that actually cleans the database from the messages that are
beyond the specified "window"), and tried to see if you still experience the problem you described.
Besides, I'd expect you'll get a significant performance boost for Aquamail.

Kostya, the app developer, when he gets to read this message upon his return (probably in a day or two?), will likely have an answer with a more technical details.

The question "How can I make a backup of my mail accounts?" is answered in the Aquamail FAQ: http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=227  .

How do I compact the database?
You will find this option in the app's menu:
> go to the app's main window (account list view) > click on the menu button (three-dots) > the fourth item is "Compact the database"

Compacting the db helped. And I reduced my cache and sync size to 2500. Weirdly, two folders that were over the mark (3800+ each) are both still showing no reduction. Shouldn't they have automatically reduced to 2500?

I did receive one more Part_1 email, but the problem is greatly reduced.

Any more advice?

This is a GoDaddy issue.

Brand new, just started.

Fortunately, they also broke the iPhone Mail app, so they're (supposedly) working on a fix.

This is from a user who contacted GoDaddy support and that's what they told him.
