Search not working reliably from smart folder
« on: December 04, 2015, 10:51:30 pm »
On galaxy s5  keeping current with aquamail versions I continue to have problems with search results from the smart folder. My smart folder is set up to show the contents of two inboxes from two different email accounts. If I search in either of those inboxes for particular words I will get the correct results , but if I do the same searches from the smart folder I get inconsistent results mostly they are not accurate or show no results at all where I know there should be results. Is This a known issue or do I have some problem where I might need to reinstall?

When you initiate search from a folder, the app first shows you matches in whatever messages are already loaded (using however much text for each of those messages is loaded at the time, which may not be complete) -- and then does a server search and downloads any messages reported as matching by the server.

When searching from smart folder or the app's main window (account list), there is no server search.

Does this explain what you're seeing?

What I found today is that I'm having inconsistent behavior.  Sometimes when I swipe right to delete in my smart folder the message is not deleted in my inbox but is removed from smart folder.  That I think is closer to the root issue.  I need to test a little more to figure out what is happening.  I guess I should ask, if my smart folder contains my inbox, should those two match?

The smart folder is filtered by date/time -- it's in app settings under smart folder, and also in the "slide out drawer" in the smart folder itself.

Other than that, yes, it's same messages.

"Sometimes when I swipe right to delete in my smart folder the message is not deleted in my inbox but is removed from smart folder"

Yes, I'd be very interested in hearing if you discover some sort of pattern.

Anyone else seeing this or similar?

No, I can't reproduce this issue...

OK, so now I'm confused about smart folder behavior.  For much of today it was only showing unread messages.  I didn't think that was how it behaved but I assumed I was wrong.  Earlier  today every message I opened disappeared from smart folder but still exist in their real folders.  However I just received an email and opened it, it still shows up in smart folder, it's the only message there.  This could very well be the intended behavior, but I'm at a loss why things are changing for me.

Hi Matt,
How are your accounts configured (IMAP, POP3 or EWS)?

Please check your Smart Folder settings:

Go to app's main window (account list view) > Menu button > Smart Folder >...
e.g. Smart Folder time period > is the option "Only unread" enabled or one of the other time-dependent options?

I recommend to try the very last option "All current". Just to check if the Smart Folder is viewing the current loaded messages properly.

I hadn't messed with those settings but after looking at them, my issues could be explained by these settings changing.  I've set to "all current" and if I see any further issues return I'll check those settings first.

Thank you for your help!
