Re-reading my message, I apologize if I over-reacted. My bad.
There is nothing wrong with IMAP itself -- when it works, and that's most of the time, with most mail services.
But when it's broken at some particular mail service, at some particular time -- then it's everyone's loss, mine, and users' alike.
I do understand that you need things to work, now, and that ActiveSync provides a viable solution, now.
Hopefully the Hotmail team notices and fixes these issues, and then you'll be able to go back to AquaMail if you still want to.
Last time Hotmail's IMAP broke, mid-summer, was when they rolled out previews for image attachments in Outlook.com web mail (these images couldn't download over IMAP, no idea why it was related) -- and this was fixed after about a week, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Oh, and I saw a message or two about how "this started since the recent Outlook.com web mail update", but I don't use it regularly so not sure what they changed this time.
