How to show only INBOX?
« on: July 07, 2015, 07:09:59 pm »
I use Aquamail as a notification service; that is, I watch my email and occasionally respond from the (Android 5.0.1) phone.  I am IMAP all the way.  So I want emails to go to the SENT folder, but not be displayed on the phone.  Ideally the account (I have five) link itself would be all that is displayed, and when clicked it displays only the INBOX items.

You can change this with individual settings:
> go to App's main window (account list view) > long tap on (each) account name > Options and folders > folders > disable sync by tapping at each folders name (except INBOXl"): choose "Do not sync"

I'm sure with you will get what you want.

Not quite; that stops sync, but not display.

Not quite; that stops sync, but not display.

The INBOX will still synchronized so you will definitely get notifications of new messages.
The Inbox is the only folder where you will receive new messages ...
All other folders are no longer displayed and not synchronized.

Note that if you turn off sync for the Sent folder, as was suggested here, then the app won't be able to sync sent messages either way.

It will only store them locally, it'll look almost the same, but the app's [ Sent ] folder won't sync with anything.

Same for moving to Deleted (and Drafts too).

What I can suggest instead is:

- App settings -> account list -> expand accounts -> none

- Same screen -> turn on "inbox on account tap"

I'll have to test it, but I am expecting that since it is an IMAP structure that when I send an email my server will put a copy into Sent, even if the phone does not.  Thanks for your suggestions; I'll be able to test later today.

It depends. Gmail, Hotmail and some others do that.

Others do not.

Generally speaking, it's not required.

My email client is Thunderbird; I have my own URLs, all hosted by Media Temple.  I guess I should just test to find out.

Just tested, and the IMAP server does not create a Sent entry at the server unless I have selected for Sent at the phone to sync with it.  So I guess I give up and just use it as-is.  Too bad there is no control to select what is and is not displayed.  Thanks for your interest.

Sorry, but I have no idea where you will see an issue.

With AquaMail you already have strong control about folders:
> folders you want to see: just turn on sync (suggestion : INBOX,  Sent, Deleted)
> folders you don't want to see: turn off sync (e.g. Drafts, ... any other individual folder)
