Notifications on Galaxy Gear 2 Neo

The notifications seem to get mixed up .. ie one email will 'run' into another so the email notifications are a continuous item rather than separate messages.

Some more info .. please see attachment of screen shots.

(1) Email notifications coming through OK - I can see who the sender is, and when I click on any of the notifications they read OK

(2) Email notifications pulling through incorrectly - I just see my own email address in the notification line, and not the sender.  If I now click on any of the notifications, all the emails are merged into one.

(3) This shows in detail the problem.  First you can see a list of emails as they appear in my Outlook client.  Then you can see the corresponding notification list.  Note some of the notifications display correctly - ie I can see the sender's name - as in (1), but others just show my email address - as in (2).  There is no logical reason why some show correctly and others do not.  Finally to see a screen shot of what it looks like when I view a notification - all emails are merged.

I hope this detailed description helps.

Aqua does not have any built-in support for Samsung's Gear2 devices, and therefore does not post its notifications there.

It has to be some other app (maybe Samsung's) trying to mirror standard status bar notifications on the smart watch.

Therefore, please contact Samsung.

The Gear manager app picks up the standard notifications posted to the phone and relays them to the Gear watch.

Since I am not getting issues with other apps, I think it might be to do with how AquaMail is formatting / delimiting the notifications - maybe dropping some characters or not terminating the notifications correctly.  The phone might be a bit more forgiving than the watch.

... just a guess!

If you're seeing the notifications just fine in the phone's status bar, then Aqua is not "dropping some characters", is it?

What "not terminating the notifications correctly" might mean I'm too frightened to even try to imagine.

Aqua posts status bar notifications using the standard (and only) Android functions for status bar notifications.

The layouts are all system provided layouts.

Aqua does not use any notification layouts of its own, but will use the new "list style" and "big text style" notification available on Android 4.1+.

If another app intercepts Aqua's notifications and does something else with them, then it seems logical that this is what the mix-up is.

Have you tried contacting Samsung support about this?

OK .. I take your point ... I am just trying to analyse the problem logically, so exploring all options.

You are correct in that Aqua has no problems with notifications to the Android phone (in fact I have never had any problems with Aqua since I bought it over a year ago).

So maybe it is at the Gear 2 end .. since it is running the Tizen operating system something is not being posted correctly.  Aqua uses the same generic notification feature of the Gear Manager that all other (non-Samsung apps) use.  I am not seeing the same problem with other apps (on my phone) using this generic notification procedure  ... hence my "guess/suggestion" that the issue must be linked to the content and/or packaging of the notification ... most probably a character embedded in the notification that is interpreted as a control character that either causes the premature termination of the notification string  or is ignored so one message merges into another.  Maybe other apps don't encounter this problem because: either they don't post multiple notifications, or the notifications are much shorter, or the content of the notification does not use non-ascii characters.

So I agree, it is not the fault of Aqua - but lies in Gear Manager.  So I guess I'm going to have to live with it because "yes" I have tried contacting Samsung .. but this is a totally pointless exercise  :-X

I hope the other members of this forum appreciate the quick and detailed replies you post. Keep up the good work.

Just one correction:

Aqua uses the same generic notification feature of the Gear Manager of the Android operating system.

The status bar notification API targets status bar notifications. There are ways for apps to "spy on" notifications posted by other apps, to do something else with them, but then you're adding another variable into the mix.

Maybe it's my using "list style" and "big text style" notifications that the Gear app is having trouble with... But this is how I can show more message text or subject / sender for multiple messages in the status bar.
