Message Notications
« on: May 16, 2014, 10:14:59 pm »
Something has happened to the message notification settings, perhaps with the latest update.

I have 3 email accounts.  Until recently, I had different LED colors and vibration patterns for each account.  A couple of days ago I stopped getting notifications altogether.

Now, I can only set one LED color and vibration pattern for all of the accounts.  When I try a different color and pattern in one account, it defaults to the other two accounts as well.

I cleared the data a re-entered my Yahoo and Gmail accounts, but the settings still only allow one LED color and vibration pattern for both accounts.   :(

There are two settings for notifications:

1 - App global, used by default for all accounts: Menu -> Settings -> Message notificaitons.

2 - Per-account overrides. By default, none, but you can change them: long press the account -> Special settings -> message notifications -> enable the override and set to your preference.

I should note that Android doesn't "juggle" different LED colors coming from multiple notifications. It just uses the most recent color, it seems.

There is a third party app, called LightFlow, that can do this "color juggling", and it works with Aqua.

Thanks Kostya

I think what I was doing wrong was trying to set the account settings by long pressing on the inboxes rather than the accounts.   :-[

I now have another issue with not receiving emails.

I have my three accounts all enabled with different intervals for each account (10, 30 and 60 minutes).  It seems that my Yahoo account (my primary email account which is set to check every 10 minutes) is not receiving and notifying me.

Special settings for mail receiving and notification are enabled for all three accounts.  Does the global setting need to be enabled since the special settings override that setting?

Thanks as always

Steve

The "sync mail in background" setting works like a "chain" -- it has to be enabled in app settings as well as at each account's level.

Basically, it's a quick way to turn off scheduled sync for all accounts with one settings (e.g. someone going on vacation, etc.)

Does this account receive new mail at all, and it's just already read?

Does it not receive mail (in this account) at all based on scheduled checks? If so, please check the app global "sync on a schedule" setting.

Kostya

My wife and I were out of the US over the weekend and turned off the data on our phones.  After coming back last night we turned on the data and all three accounts received the new emails received over the weekend.

I'll continue to monitor and let you know if anything changes again.

Thanks once more
Steve
