How to get Default Gmail Primary/Social/Promotion Folders
« on: February 20, 2014, 07:50:01 pm »
Hello,

Have been using Gmail for years, and now transitioning to Aqua mail on my Android device.

I like the new gmail inbox interface, which provides separate inboxes for mails in the three categories: primary, social and promotions.

Can I replicate this in AquaMail?  Currently, the program pulls all mails in one mailbox, and I would rather have them sorted as it is in the original gmail app.

Will appreciate your thoughts ...

Thanks - Oyiwaa

These special folders do not appear accessible via IMAP.

So, should I change my settings to POP to access these special folders?

I believe it is not possible for Aquamail to fetch them, as they are not real IMAP-Folders, but rather a sorting only done by Gmail!

You can add your own IMAP-Folders ("Labels") in Gmail and add Filters, so specific mail gets moved in specific Folders!

Right, POP3 would be even worse, and it does not allow access to *any* server side folders (everything is lumped in one "basket").

As far as I can tell, this type of message sorting is only accessible in web mail and the native Gmail app.

Those special "labels" don't show as IMAP folders (as all other Gmail labels do), and the setting to "Show in IMAP" in Gmail web setting for them is just not there (as it is for all other labels / folders).
