Hi Kostya, I'd like a new counter widget.

Is it possible to have the icon program with a number notification as the stock email program?

This is possible with Apex Launcher Pro (make sure to enable "external notifiers" in Apex's advanced settings, and also Apex needs to be installed before my app due to a permission check in Apex).

When you see an overlay like this on a Samsung / HTC / Sony -- it's a custom feature of their firmware, only accessible to their own apps.

Is it hard to redraw the actual widget in order to have a brand new graphic, similar to the application icon with a notification number of new emails?

It is hard to match what your particular device's launcher icons look like.

The positioning of the icon and the label, the text style of the label (its font size, shadow, background) vary greatly even between devices.

On the other hand, if you compare my message counter widget against something like Widgetsoid (just to pick an example), you should see that the sizes match...
