Skipping over messages in POP3
« on: September 02, 2013, 07:06:28 pm »
I'm using Aquamail w/ POP3 on both a Nexus 7.2 and an HTC Droid DNA,  The server is Mercury, and the app skips over messages on the server.  Using Thunderbird on a PC finds and downloads them all; I'm sure the server is working correctly. Aquamail is set to "delete messages on the app and leave them on the server", so the two devices aren't deleting anything; neither is the Thunderbird.
I've tried various settings in Aquamail without success.  The number of messages it skips seems to increase as the number of messages on the server increases, for some reason. I'm hoping it's something simple that I've overlooked. FWIW, both Android devices seem to miss the very same messages.  Thanks for any help.

Do you mean it doesn't get some of the recent messages?

Sounds like the server shuffles their order, so they're not ordered by date, and the app doesn't get all recent messages when loading only a portion of the server side message list.

Thunderbird (and other desktop mail apps) have the luxury of downloading everything, and will get new messages even if the server puts them somewhere in the middle of the list.

Please long press the account, choose Options and Folders, then Account options, and increase the "messages per page" to a larger number (250 to start).

Oh, and how messages do you actually have in this account, on the server? If you have web mail access, that would an easy way to check.

Thanks, I'll try that.  I never have more than 150 messages in the account.

Setting it to 250 will not cause a nuclear blast :) That's the max number anyway.

Recent development builds have an optimization for POP3, too, esp. noticeable on mobile networks (where each command takes longer, due to increased latency, compared to WiFi).
