Future plans
« on: June 07, 2013, 02:42:22 am »
Hello all,

It may seem that I've stopped developing the app and do not care about improving it further.

Not quite true.

For the last few months, I've had to deal with serious health issues.

It seems the worst is over now, and even though I'm not fully recovered yet, I'm starting to be able to work again.

My plans are:

- Native support for .ics calendar invites, being able to accept / decline right from Aqua Mail, and to send them (I hope this second part works out).

- Support for those horrible winmail.dat "attachments" that Outlook likes to send instead of nice standard Internet MIME messages.

- Built-in contact picker, which will include recent emails from actual messages, and not just what's in the device's Contacts... A better way to select groups, too.

--- this will be released to Play ---

- Better support for Exchange, using EWS (Exchange Web Services). There will not be support for ActiveSync.

--- release ---

Other "must have / nice to have" things, timing not cetain:

- Rich message formatting for new messages

- Threaded / conversation view

- The incredibly fashionable "swipe" actions here and there.

Smaller things will be added and fixed along the way, as usual.

Nice plan. Proper meeting handling is a missing feature from my BlackBerry days and I still can't believe Android didn't get it right. Hope you're able to make it.

Hope you fully recover.

Good health to you.

Nice plan effectively.
Your application will be the best when HTML will be completed.

Thanks.

As a daily user of Apple mail App on a pocket sized terminal, threaded view is a must imho. And as a Thunderbird user also, enjoying its so refined search features with aquamail world be more than helpful to dig around the mess of my mailing lists.

anyway, thanks à lot for Aquamail !

I'm glad that you are better now. And I really appreciate your plans to further improve aqua mail. I am desperately waiting for the implementation of the threaded view.

Thanks a lot

Your health is of course the most important thing so I wish you well with your recovery. I am trialling Aquamail and if HTML signatures are possible then we will roll out the paid version to everyone in our company (we all work remotely and use our mobiles for email quite a bit). Your program is superb and I look forward to using it for a long time!

I hope you are on the mend and feeling better now.

I would agree with many other posters that rich text (or HTML) message and signature formatting options (at least for font style/colour/size, text justification, and inline images) should be in the 'must-have' immediate plans - certainly with a much higher working priority than calendar invites or a new contact picker.

Not sure what you mean by swipe features, but I do know that I keep instinctively trying to get from the message list to the accounts list by swiping left, and also I try to read an individual email by swiping the message-tile to the right (rather like dismissing a notification). OK, I know I should just tap to open the message, but for some reason my finger keeps wanting to swipe instead! LOL. Anyway, it'd be nice (and very simple to implement) if swipe left/swipe right were available to get between the accounts, message-list and email-view screens.

Guess I failed to communicate what I really intended to.

My intent was - I'm not ignoring feature suggestions, and the forum in general because I don't care. I'm just finding it very difficult to do that because of objective reasons outside my control.

I also wanted to share my plans, just to keep you users informed. It's not perfect ("all the missing / wanted features by the end of next week" would be), but it's a plan.

All things considered, I know this makes no difference, though... a failure is a failure.

App X has feature A, and app Y has feature B, and so on... and my app loses by comparison. I know.

No need need to post all the missing / wanted features here all over again, I have a pretty good idea about what they are, just unable to work on them.

Does this mean the app is a piece of shit, and I'm a loser? Maybe. I guess it does.

For there to be winners, there need to be losers too, just for comparison. Fine, I'm one.

Don't have anything more to say about this, and not looking forward to more "what about feature Z" type messages here. This topic will be locked, closed to replies.
