Re: Shorter "color splash" time for undo-able operations

Yes, better. I think the current timing (150 ms) is close to the minimum. Anything shorter might seem abrupt. BTW - similar presentation on high/low performance devices. The latter does not even have a GPU! So 2010. :)

Edit:Just noticed the 'undo' toasts are semi-transparent. Nice touch!

Having worked through a morning's load of mail I can say the shorter splash duration is no longer disruptive (for me). I can process through items at a normal pace without having to momentarily hesitate for the screen to catch up. While I would still like a way to control/suppress the animation altogether it is no longer a priority. Appreciate the work in this area.

Thank you for the feedback. What's the size of your screen? Have you used the 2 panel mode?
My primary device is a 7" tablet with a high-res screen. I like the smaller form factor even though aging eyes long for something larger. I also have a variety of other portable devices with varying screen sizes. My personal portfolio is capped off with a multi-screen workstation for getting 'real' work done. Still, the 7" is what accompanies me everywhere.

I am familiar with Aqua's two panel mode (and use it on occasion) but prefer a more traditional presentation. Actually, the latter is what brought me first to K9 and later AquaMail when Google began enforcing split screen in all Gmail properties, even when I attempted to 'trick' the device into thinking it was something else (worked for awhile). Portrait orientation is preferred so a split screen feels a bit compressed.

Aqua's split screen customizations are the most flexible that I have seen in a mail product. That said, the FAB and FCB are marvelous and quickly missed when operating with a split panel.

Davey:
Exactly this is my feeling when using AquaMail on my tablet with the 2-panel mode: missing this ominous FAB pretty soon 8)

Hey Kostya,

I just want to thank you for implementing message folder destination conformation/undo for "Move to folder" actions, along with deletion/undo!

This is a feature that I requested some time last year, and I'm as thrilled as a little kid at the amusement park that you've added it! As one who constantly moves messages around between more than 36 folders throughout each work day, being able to see that folder destination conformation toast helps my work-flow go so much more smoothly.

I also love that the "undo" toasts are semi-transparent...looks real sharp!

Again, I state that I'm a huge fan of your work. You continue to maintain an incredibly high standard in the cleanliness of your coding, and excellence in sensible highly functional design, customization and implementation. Your user support and engagement is still beyond exemplary.

If there were a Presidential Medal  of Honor (I'm in the US) for developers, you should receive at least 5-6 of them. Oh, and you should also get a MacArthur Genius Award.

I would never raise this nit if the feature in question was already in production. However, since it's part of a development build and still in refinement...

In the Gmail app the undo toast immediately retracts from the message list if a scroll is initiated prior to timer expiration or taking some other action. In Aqua the toast remains until the timer expires when scrolling. The Gmail mobile interface behaves the same as Aqua.

A minor thing for sure and possibly by design. I happen to like the approach taken by the Gmail Android app. Seems more elegant and dispenses with screen clutter once a clearing action has been initiated.

Davey:
I'm not a fan of that it should be desirable to get a behavior "as Gmail app".
As already mentioned in another thread I really appreciate the solution as currently implemented in AquaMail:

Sure, that's fine. I am not advocating for Aqua to be just like Gmail. Hardly! But I do feel compelled to point out behaviors that I feel make the app look and/or perform better. Just as you are here and in other posts.

Also not trying to resurrect a dead horse as the previous thread had a slightly different flavor. I do have a concern with the increasing number of animations/visuals being added to Aqua. I understand their purpose and benefit but also don't want Aqua to digress into a web page with dancing graphics everywhere (bit of an exaggeration to emphasize my point  ::) ).

Re: web page with dancing graphics everywhere

Wait, WHAT?

Here I am hard at work towards exactly that, and you're saying it's wrong somehow :)

Seriously though:

The shorter (1-second delay) is already addressed just not posted.

Other than that, do you have any concerns wrt. "signing and dancing"?
