Notifications sound and LED light
« on: July 05, 2015, 06:01:19 pm »
Hi,

I'm using AquaMail for more than 2 years, on several devices. At this time it's running on HTV One M8. Pro version, of course. I'm using it for 2 gmail accounts (one gmail and one for google apps for business). Everything works good. Till last night.

Yesterday I installed new email client on my iPhone (I have two phones and both of them check 2 identical gmail accounts). This new mail client uses new google oauth2 method for authorisation. This new email client on iOS works perfect.

But I have problem with Aquamail on my android. I'm receiving emails. Notifications are there but there is no sound and LED light anymore. :(

I tried everything, delete accounts on Aquamail and create it again, change authorization method on Aquamail to oauth, rewoke app access to Aquamail and this iOS client on Google account and assigned it again, completely uninstall this email client from my iPhone and nothing helped...

Aquamail does not make any sound and led light when new mail arrive. :( I see new mail icon in notifications bar, but there's no sound and LED light, and till yesterday everything was perfect.

Thx!

Do your new messages come into AquaMail as *unread*?

Or does this new factor (the new mail app on the iPhone) cause messages to be marked *read* on the server?

AquaMail only notifies about *unread* messages.

In addition to checking in AquaMail, you can easily check this (the read/unread status of messages after they've been fetched by the iOS app) in Gmail / web.

Kostya - I am having the same problem with the same issue and I am several hours into trying to fix it. Tried everything. Worked great on galaxy s4, but when upgraded to LGG4, no led lights when the screen is off. ANy suggestions?

When you say "same issue" and "no led lights when the screen is off" --

-- does this mean the LED's come up (from Aqua's notifications) when the screen is lit up?

That it comes up at all means AquaMail indicated that the notification should engage the LED. The rest is up to the phone's software.

Oh and this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=lg+g4+led+notification+not+working

... finds surprisingly many results.

I'm using Nexus 5 with unrooted vanilla marshmallow, and have no led with new emails, screen on or off. Gmail app serves it immediately as soon as screen off as do other apps so it's not a phone issue. Don't use sounds for this app, so it's just the led issue I'm looking support for.

@Rs8 -- not sure if you're reporting that AquaMail's notifications are not *immediate* or that they they aren't happening *at all*.

1 - not *immediate*

By default AquaMail has push disabled for newly added accounts, it checks mail every 15 minutes.

To enable: long press the account -> options and folders -> account options -> turn on "IMAP push".

2 - *not at all*

Does AquaMail receive new messages?

Are they unread?

If yes and yes, and yet no notifications -- please check system settings -> apps -> find AquaMail -> tap into it and make sure that "Show notifications" is enabled. This is a system level per-app "kill switch" for notifications.

And one more thing -- since you mention Marshmallow.

If you leave the phone sitting idle for a long time, the Doze Mode may be kicking in, stopping background activity in most apps.

To avoid it, consider marking AquaMail for "ignoring battery optimizations":
