[solved] IMAP problems after reinstall of 1.3.8 Pro

Hi,

i've problems with deleted mail in my inbox since a reinstall of Aquamail Pro 1.3.8 on my Samsung galaxy Tab 3 8.0 (Android 4.2.2). My IMAP mail provider is Arcor.de. After the reinstall ~200 mails in my inbox from the last 7 months were deleted. There were just 20 mails left. And every new day the mails of one day more are nuked !! It seems as aquamail holds just the mail of 13 days and deletes everything older.

It's no auto deleting option of my provider, all mail folders autodelete timers except spam are set to "do not delete".
Curious, all the mails in the sendmail folder are uneffected, they don't get deleted.

Any ideas what's wrong ? At the moment it's a real pain to see more and more mails deleted forever .

The first thought was spam or deleted folder,  too.  But they were really deleted.

I use aquamail pro for a few months now without any problem on 2 devices (Galaxy 4 mini).  This issue occured after the first reinstall of the app.

Did you ever delete those messages in Aqua, using any of the three delete methods?

Can you check web mail to see if the messages are in fact there, just don't load into Aqua (there can be reasons for this).

Worth mentioning: Aqua does not have any code to delete messages from mail serves when it checks mail (as some desktop mail apps do).

No, they were gone directly after reinstall
In webmailer they are gone, too. And in their deleted folder and in recycle bin.

Unless you've deleted all those messages in Aqua, I very much doubt that this app is responsible.

The good news: Yesterday I've lost no mail !

The bad news: Today another mail was deleted on may Galaxy Tab 3. I immediately looked on my S4 mini (off at this time), where I managed to switch it offline directly after boot, so the mail was still unsynced. The lost mail was still in aquamail memory on this device, so I marked it as unread and synced. But after sync it was gone on S4 mini and in webmail . And it wasn't in recycle bin . That's horrible ... after months of use without any problem I run almost daily into this issue.

Kostya, can you please give me a download link for the previous version of aquamail for testing ?

No, they weren't spam. I've configured some spam filters in my provider's web interface, but they all are set to move spam to spam folder for 30 days before deleting them. The latest lost mails were just 2 weeks old.

No specific sender, no relation between them.

Yes, I'm using Outlook 2010 on a Win7 64bit laptop. In Outlook the mail account is configured as Pop3 because I never trusted IMAP, so I have at least a backup of my lost mails there. I'm using my devices alone, no one else has access to them. I use this setup together with aquamail on Galaxy Tab and S4 mini since months, I never had any problem with lost mails before.

Could there be a chance you deleted mail in outlook,  and configure outlook to delete it from server.  Also ensure that you have selected in outlook something like "never delete from server" and not "keep on server for 15 days". Just to cross check.  Thanks

Outlook with POP3?

Please make sure that you don't have Outlook configured to delete messages from the server after it checks mail, or maybe delete all messages past a certain number.

Desktop mail apps quite often do this by default. And then the deletions will get synced into Aqua, since you're using IMAP.

I would really recommend using IMAP on all devices, large ("real" PCs) and small (Android), and Outlook is not the only game in town either. You'll be glad you did.

However, if you'd rather stay as close to your current setup as possible, please do look into "delete mail from server" setting(s) in Outlook.

Shame on me...  you got it!

That option "delete mails after 14 days from server"  was active per default .  Didn't get aware of that when I migrated my laptop from hdd to ssd with new install of outlook.
