How do i stop the app from running in the background.
« on: February 20, 2013, 08:40:42 pm »
Like many other apps there is a "exit" option. I did not find this.
So i went to setting, applications and forced the stop. which worked for a few seconds then i got the "@" on the screen again.
I need to be able to turn this on and off at will.

I'd like to know this too.  When I set mine up it said something about not stopping it from running in the background or it wouldn't work right.  I'm interested in finding out the same info.

Sent from my GN2

This is what i got from the maker.

Open the app's settings, turn off "scheduled mail checking" and "IMAP
push". After this, you can force stop the app if you wish, and it
should not restart.
Those settings are always accessible, and as far as the app's memory
usage, if this is your concern --

Its background service does not "fight back" if Android needs to kill
it, due to low memory (some other apps do),

That is, unless you've enabled IMAP Push, in which case it will "fight
back" if killed -- but that's intended, so the app can provide instant
incoming mail notifications.

If you would like to keep scheduled mail checks and be sure the app
lets go of memory for other app in between -- just disable IMAP Push
and keep scheduled mail checks enabled.

Right, I remember that... sorry, don't always keep up with the forum.

To reiterate:

- IMAP Push requires a running service in the background, so it can stay connected to the server(s). If you kill it, the app will fight back to provide IMAP push again.

- If not using IMAP Push, the app will leave a service behind, but 1) it won't consume CPU or battery just because it's there 2) if killed by Android due to low memory, it won't fight back.
