How do I connect to kopano?
« on: January 22, 2018, 01:12:07 pm »
If I try to login to our kopano-Exchangeserver, I get a message
"Exchange Mailserver (EWS): Ungültige Serverantwort. HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found."

My colleague uses "nine", and he has no problem. I used "Blue Mail" and could connect without problems on Port 443.

There are different ways to connect to Exchange.

Aqua Mail uses something called Exchange Web Services (EWS).

This is an official documented supported part of Exchange since 2007. Used by other apps too.

Enabled by default. Sometimes disabled by server admins.

Please ask "kopano" support:

- If they support EWS specifically (not ActiveSync)

- If there is a different server name you're supposed to use for it

Kopano doesn't support EWS, only ActiveSync.

Any chance that you will support ActiveSync anytime soon? Apart from this little (:P) issue aqua-mail looks very promising for me and some people I trust are recommending it.

We do not have any plans for Active Sync (soon or otherwise).

EWS is an official, documented, supported part of *Microsoft* Exchange since 2007. No reason not to use it, and we're not the only ones who do.

If it's not supported by an "alternative" Exchange server implementation or is buggy (and there are several - incl. Zimbra and Kerio), then that's their problem to fix.

PS - Amazon came out with an "Amazon Work Email" email hosting maybe a year or two ago, also an "alternative" Exchange implementation (i.e. not Microsoft) from what I can tell. They put the effort into making EWS actually work, and Aqua Mail works with it just fine.

No reason why other vendors who develop "Exchange replacement, as good as the real thing" server software couldn't do the same. The documentation is out there.
