Emails not deleting from IMAP server.
« on: June 15, 2017, 05:29:07 pm »
I have my Aquqmail set up right. I have folders mapped correctly and I have it set to move to trash on delete. But when I delete on my phone with Aquamail and then log into the IMAP server on my computer, I see that the emails are still there. About half the time this works, and about half the time it doesn't. How do I make it persist all changes? This is the latest version of Aquamail on Stock Android 6.0.1.

I really like the way this app looks and performs, but if it is only going to actually work half the time it is unusable to me. Function over form. Period.

My account server is Charter or Spectrum. My cable company. I get to it through a web browser (Firefox) on my pc. I do not have Outlook anywhere.

Ok, thank you.
In AquaMail, on press on your account name -> Options and folders -> Options then post screenshots of the folder list you see there.
For Sent, Trash, Spam, please tell what you see when you tap on them.
Correction:
"... In AquaMail, long press on your account name -> Options and folders -> Folders then post screenshots..."

I can type out what it says:

Inbox
Sync (plain folder), not in Smart Folder        Gear Icon with choices: Show in Smart Folder, Do not Notify

Drafts
Sync with Drafts folder                                 Gear icon with choice: This folder has no options

Junk Mail (no idea where this came from i have another thread about it)

SentMail
Sync with Sent folder                                   Gear icon with choice: This folder has no options

Spam
Sync as spam, not in Smart Folder               Gear Icon with choices: Show in Smart Folder, Do not Notify

Trash
Sync with Deleted folder                              Gear icon with choice: This folder has no options

I suggest to try these steps - in AquaMail - first (before leaving to Gmail App  8)) as described by @Paris Geek in his post in your other thread:

It could be worth to check the following option in 'Account-specific' settings:

-> long press on account name -> Options and folders -> IMAP options -> enable 'EXPUNGE when deleting'

The "expunge" is enabled by default.

Also the app's default "method" for deleting messages (this is a per-account option) is "move to deleted".

Finally it looks like the app was able to discover the server side deleted folder.

So it all should work just fine.

And yet it doesn't.

---

If you're interested, we can diagnose this.

You will need to collect a debug log with "raw session data" enabled (please see below in my signature).

With that enabled, please:

- Long press on the account -> options and folders -> folders, wait for it to refresh

- Close that, and now delete a message (any message) and "back out" of the message list so that the "undo" able action "commits" (the "move to deleted" actually goes through and syncs to server).

And then you can send the debug log to support / at / aqua-mail / dot com.

Thanks.

It seems to only do this when I also use Windows Mail from one of my computers at home that has Vista. When I am using nothing but Aquamail and webmail I don't have this issue. It moves stuff to the trash folder on both my phone and server. But when I use the Windows Mail on the Vista machine at home and then try to delete emails from my phone, they do not delete from the server. What is weird though is this is not an issue with any other android app i used for mail from gmail to the old stock Android Email app that I used on Kit Kat. This Vista computer is going to be gone next week and replaced with a Windows 7 one that I will not be able to use Windows Mail anymore since 7 has no built in email client. My plan was to use Thunderbird if Windows Live mail proved to be way more than I needed (I prefer the simpler times of Outlook Express or Android Email). Maybe that will just end the problem.

PS: I tried using gmail again. Lasted about 10 minutes, it is just such garbage. Aquamail is perfect if it doesn't have this issue.

And also btw, the Junk Mail folder just disappeared a few minutes ago on it's own. No idea why. It was here for a few days and then gone.

Expunge is enabled too, like I said it works half the time. If that wasn't enabled I would think it would never work.

Sounds good.
BTW: I'm using AquaMail on my Android phone and on my tablet + Thunderbird on my (old) Windows 7 and on my Windows 10 notebook:
-> without any problems.  :)

Yeah it did it again. It is definitely related to Aquamail and Windows Mail not playing well. When I delete a mail from Windows Mail it deletes it from Aqua Mail but not from the IMAP server. When this whole setup was the same but Android Mail instead of Aquamail I never had this issue. I will just avoid deleting from Windows Mail until I get the other computer up and running completely.

Sorry can't be - Aqua doesn't sync with Windows Mail (or Outlook, or Tunderbird, ...).

It syncs with the mail server - and Windows Mail (or Outlook, or Thunderbird, ...) also syncs with the mail server.

Maybe the difference is push mail if you have that enabled in Aqua (for the account too)? And somehow it makes the Outlook IMAP server "resurrect" the message (when Aqua is processing the deletion)?
