Flipping Backgrounds
« on: August 11, 2013, 03:43:10 pm »
I have AquaMail setup for white on black. It looks fine when composing a reply in portrait, but in landscape it displays black on white.

Nexus 7 2013
Stock, unrooted 4.3.

That's your soft keyboard going full screen, it has its own "window" in the foreground that takes over.

Interesting. It seems this is a feature of SwiftKey. Anybody know if it can be turned off?

No, it's a feature of the Android system. Called "extracted UI mode for input" or something like that.

I could set some flags asking the input system to not do that, but

1) it's only a hint, there is no guarantee it will be observed and

2) this mode kicks in on phone sized screens in landscape mode... how much space would be left for the app's UI behind the keyboard? would it be useful for anything?

I see this with all keyboards in landscape mode on my phone (Nexus 4), but only with the Swiftkey keyboard on my Nexus 7.

First capture is with Swiftkey loaded, second is stock android (and Swype looks this way as well).
