Settle in delay and other system settings
« on: August 23, 2014, 03:20:07 pm »
Most of the settings are obvious and need no explanation.  Others have me baffled, and in the absence of any form of user manual, I hope I can find some answers on the forum.

  • Sync even when auto sync is off??  Why would I not set auto sync on, then?
WiFi in sleep mode: what exactly does this do?  Surely if WiFi is enabled, mail will be sync'd, and not if it is off, anyway?
Mail check interval is set to 15 mins, but minimum time between sync interval is 30 mins - what's the difference?
What exactly does the 'settle in' delay do?

If there is a document that covers these and other similar questions, that would be great to know!

This is for event based sync -- e.g. your device connecting to WiFi, mobile, there are other events too. This is for users who don't want to use scheduled mail sync, but need to get new mail when they get home.. that sort of thing.

The "minimum interval" helps avoid the app constantly checking mail if the device connects, then loses connectivity, then connects again, ....

It has no effect on scheduled mail checks or push mail. If you don't use event based mail checking, just ignore it.

Re: And what is 'settle in delay'?

This is mostly for people using Greenify and similar apps - which only enable the phone's network connectivity at certain times.

The setting adjusts Aqua's mail check schedule by a small "delta" to give the phone's network connection to actually start working.
