I wonder if  - when selecting a contact, the search "type" should automatically switch to "headers only".

1. Search type can easily be changed during typing by users. So why making it more complicated?


2. "Automatical" changing after selecting a contact can help  (if intended to search headers), but will cause confusions, especially if users don't realize the change of search type.


3. Technically there are two cases


- Contact is only to be found in mail headers: So there is no difference in result of searching in headers or full text. (Of course there could be speed differences)


- Contact can be found not only in mail headers, but also in mail bodies: Often the user will not know where to search, so let him search everywhere - full text search in headers and bodies.
And he can decide himself everytime he is performing a search.

BTW: Why do we have two magnifier glass icons on tablet (not on phone),
- one in top bar for searching within loaded messages,
- one in bottom bar for searching on server?

We can't distinguish between them (see screenshot). Confusing. I often forget which one is for searching on server.

Suggestion: Only one icon, which allows to choose search location.

It is often hard to notice that the search icon changed, especially if you don't expect it to.
While I see the rational behind switching, @nica's consideration makes sense, and it convinced me that it shouldn't be switched automatically: the UI's behavior should be consistent.

You can - if you tap it and examine the "hint" displayed in the search field.

And in general - the icons below the message list apply to the folder "owning" the message list.

I completely agree with @nica that it is a sub-par design choice to have identical icons on the same screen but with different functions.

I also agree that at the moment, it is not a pressing issue.

The "functions" are not quite identical - there is a "refresh all accounts" icon and a "refresh the folder" icon, the latter is below the folder to which is applies.

Same with search and compose.

Это самое значимое, что добавилось в программе за долгое вромя.
Я ради этого даже обновился с моей любимой версии 1.10.0-376, где есть "глюк" со скрытыми полями "Обратный адрес" и "Скрытая копия" -  Всё еще ОЧЕНЬ жду добавления такой настройки

Можете пояснить, что под этим понимается? Какая связь между этим и добавлением поиска по контактам? Не проще сделать так же как происходит поиск в приложении Gmail? (как именно там это происходит, я не знаю, правда:) )

Кроме "что искать" в панели поиска ещё есть "как искать", то есть "в чём именно". Это кнопка / иконка с правой стороны.

Понял. Тогда думаю, что автоматическое переключение на поиск по заголовкам не очень хорошая идея. Лучше, чтобы после нахождения контактов поиск был (продолжался) по всем частям писем.
