Using aqua mail on a second device
« on: December 25, 2015, 10:48:15 pm »
I was congratulating myself for getting Aqua Mail  running so easily on my Android phone and decided to replace my laptop mail with Aqua Mail. After set-up, it wiped out all of my mail and folders. Is there a way to restore them.

Not clear on what exactly happened -- "wiped out all accounts and folders".

Did "everything" disappear just on the device? Sounds like a database file corruption

Please use system settings -> apps (or apps management) -> tap into AquaMail -> Clear data

and then re-restore the backup with your accounts / folders / settings.

PS - I assume that all your messages are still 1) there on the actual mail servers and 2) available in AquaMail on the phone.

I think the OP decided that instead of carrying a laptop, he might try carrying a lighter weight and more compact Android tablet?

What I meant was that after loading the app on the tablet, I then looked at the phone and all the e-mail and folders that were there vanished.

How are your accounts configured?

... on your phone / on your tablet?

a)  IMAP or
b)  POP3

And everything's still there 1) in web mail and 2) on the tablet?

I can hardly imagine a situation where Aqua deleted all messages (and folders) on the actual mail server.

On the phone:

Is the account still there on the app's main window? Folders? If you tap "refresh" for an account, does it seem to be doing something?

Do you / did you have more than one mail account in the app?

Are you, by any chance, using a Gmail account which you manually configured to use POP3 (rather than the default IMAP)?

I don't think this was helpful.

The account is still there on the phone. Pressing the refresh causes the icon to spin, but no mail shows.
There is only one account shown. It is a Time-Warner Roadrunner account.
I used the automatic set-up to set it up on the tablet.

BTW, after following these instuctions:
"Please use system settings -> apps (or apps management) -> tap into AquaMail -> Clear data
and then re-restore the backup with your accounts / folders / settings.
I got a message that there was no backup.
When I tried to launch the program again from the icon on the tablet's home page, I get a message to set up an account.

So there was no backup on the original device.

Can you check this account in TWC / RR web mail, to see if the messages are there (they should be).

And then can you add the account into the first device to see if it would get those?

I went through the laptop and found an old POP3 account set up when I first got it two years ago and then forgot about it. I deleted it. I reinstalled Aqua Mail and It synched with the handful of e-mails on the server.
I looked at the server via TWC webmail and it showed only one-email. The phone and the laptop show four new emails and a handful of deleted ones. Oddly the TWC Webmail shows only one new one.
I appreciate all the effort you have put in to this, but I'm just going to forget about the lost e-mail. I made a backup of the .pst file before beginning all this so I will have all but the few recent ones that came in while I was installing Aqua Mail on the other devices.
Again, many thanks for the help.

Oh, and I just want to point out that the preset config for TWC/RR in AquaMail is IMAP, not POP3.

They've been supporting IMAP since a few months to a year, I guess, and although not without some issues, it's the better option for access from multiple devices.
