Preload pictures

Is it possible to automatically pre-load pictures when checking mail on WiFi?

Yes, these options you will find in the Account-specific settings:
-> long press on account name -> Options and folders -> Preload

Mmm, seems not to work. Or not as expected. Perhaps due to a bug, perhaps because it was never intended to work that way.

For WiFi I set AM to preload attachments and pictures up to 30MB. That's far above the size of any message I receive.
For mobile data all is off. No attachments, no pictures at all.

WiFi does preload.

Most of the day I'm connected to WiFi at home or at office.
When traveling to work I'm on mobile data.
I'm on a mailing list that sends out their emails during the time I'm on mobile data.
AM does as configured and doesn't download and pictures and stuff.

My question is this: Can AM be configured to automatically download the attachments and pictures from emails that were received during the mobile data connection?

Sure: just enable preload for Mobile (3G+ and/or 2G) in the Account-specific settings:
-> long press on account name -> Options and folders -> Preload -> Attachments / Embedded images

-> see screenshot as an example:
for WiFi: up to 30 MB
for Mobile: up to 1 MB

Hi Mike that's not what I'm trying to do.

On mobile data I only want to automatically download the headers. (almost nothing)
Later when on WiFi, I want AM to download all the missing data from the emails received on mobile data.

So when I receive a 10KByte email with 5MB pictures and a 10MB attachment while on mobile data only the header is fetched.
Later when I'm connected to WiFi AM automatically starts to download everything not downloaded while on mobile data.

There is no option to enable that, and, as far as I know, Aquamail does not automatically re-download on WiFi what was only partially downloaded on mobile network. It is only when you open the message that you can download the remainder of the message and its attachments.
I agree, such a functionality/option would be helpful.

Re: There is no option to enable that, and, as far as I know, Aquamail does not automatically re-download on WiFi what was only partially downloaded on mobile network.

For IMAP, if a message was synced on mobile data, let's say it was "headers only" and then when the device is connected to WiFi, there is a "preload attachments" or "preload inline images" or a "load message text when checking mail" --

-- then yes, it will fetch what it missed, even in those messages which it fetched earlier on mobile data.

For EWS it's the same way.

This is what (others) users expect.

I know it fetches when I read. I noticed that first hand many times.

I'm on mailing list that always sends out the mail when I'm on mobile data.
I often don't read those mails for months.
But I read them when I'm sitting in a plane for 8 looooong boring hours.
Would be nice to have them all automatically preload.
Now I have to open all emails to fetch them.

So what I would love is this:
a] AM downloads headers on mobile data.
b] AM connect to WiFi
c] AM fetches all missing part on WiFi in the background without me doing anything.

That is how it works already, but your "load when checking mail" values (app settings -> network -> WiFi) may not be large enough. That's for text.

Or the account's "preload" setting. That's for inline images and attachments.

WiFi is set to 'No limit'.

Does AM preload linked images? Or only embedded images? (I that difference even exists)

I'm not sure that's the issue because I don't know how to check it.

I apologize, my observation must have mislead me on this.

Maybe, as you wrote in the followup explanation, the message went just beyond the "to sync" limit but was still within "to cache" limit (and for that reason still on the screen, and that was the reason why it remained partially loaded.

Mea culpa!

PS. As a matter of fact, when I was writing my previous response I stopped for some time, as I seemed to have remembered that Aquamail did reload under some condition. But some more recent case when some message was not loaded obscured the older memory. Now, after digging in my memory, I clearly remember that I had used previously the fact that AM reloads the messages when on WiFi.
Again, I am sorry...  (I need more sleep.)
