Messages marked as unread don't display that way in Outlook

I'm running AquaMail version 1.14.2-840 on a Galaxy S8+ (Sprint).  I have my account configured as IMAP and also use the same email account with Outlook 2016.  If I open an email in AquaMail and then mark it as unread to deal with later, the message status doesn't change to "unread" in my Outlook account.  However, if I flag a message in AquaMail it will flag in Outlook.  So I know they're communicating on some level - just not "unread" status from AquaMail to Outlook.  If I reverse the process by changing an email's status to unread in Outlook, it will update the status to unread in AquaMail.  Just not from AquMail to Outlook.

Is there a setting I'm missing or need to check?

I'm using 1.15.0-872-dev and I'm not seeing that. I mark a message unread and it's reflected on Outlook 2016 almost immediately.
It might be worth trying the update.

According to Google Play, I'm using the current version.  Perhaps the version numbers are different between the regular and Pro versions.  I'm using AqualMail Pro.

There is no difference between pro and regular version numbers. The build I referenced is a development (beta) version, readily available here on the forum. AAMOF, there's probably a newer version that what I quoted. There have been no issues with the build I'm using.

With troubleshooting a bit deeper, it appears the issue is not with AquaMail but on the Outlook and server side.  Because I never use the web version of my email account, I never thought to check there for results of the read/unread status.  On the web version, the email's status is changing and displaying properly.  So AquaMail is communicating correctly with the web interface of my email's server - but the server is apparently not passing the status changes back to Outlook (or Outlook just isn't seeing the updated info.)

I wanted to post this for the record - It's Not An AquaMail Issue!    My research continues - but now Outlook/Mail Server side.  Thanks again for the help.

Yeah the account must be set up in Outlook as POP3 type.

POP3 does not support app <-> server sync of read / unread (or starred, or folders).

You are setting Aqua Mail sync with the mail server because the default in Aqua Mail when adding an account is IMAP not POP3. IMAP does have read / unread / starred sync, folders, and more.

is typical for POP3... Unless Outlook has a bug in its IMAP implementation, which it could, in theory...
