Android Lollipop 5.0.2 loss of notification
« on: August 16, 2015, 12:56:43 am »
Hi there, I love Aqua Mail and have been using it with the pro version for years now. A short time ago I updated my LG G2 to Android 5.0.2 and I think it is since then that Aqua Mail does not notify me about new mails anymore!  :( I haven´t changed any settings. Does anyone know how to get my sound and the sign in the notification bar back?
Thanks, Steffi

Does the app still check mail at all (by default it should be checking mail every 15 minutes)?

You can tell by the "last sync time" below each account, on the app's main screen, account list.

If it does, does it receive new messages?

If it does, are they unread (or already marked read)?

Oh, and regarding notifications specifically (not all the other things that need to happen before the app even gets to that -- I mean checking mail and doing it properly) -- two things to check:

- System settings -> apps management -> click into AquaMail -> make sure "Show notifications" is enabled.

This is a system level "kill switch", it can only be changed by the user, but it appears to also change on its own (occasionally, according to some reports here).

- Android 5.0+ has this concept of "priority" and "none" notification "modes". It basically a system-wide "do not disturb" setting.

YES! It works super fine. Does everything as expected except for notifying me!

You can tell by the "last sync time" below each account, on the app's main screen, account list.

If it does, does it receive new messages?

It receives all new messages perfectly fine.

If it does, are they unread (or already marked read)?

Yes, they are marked unread, displayed bold.

Genius! Thanks for coming up with this great tip. I would have never checked that! It actually must have killed itself... Happy me again!  :D

LOL.

It's not just you either -- these new notification modes are apparently so confusing, that Google removed them from the next Android version (6.0, now in development).

At least my Nexus 5 with 6.0 "preview" doesn't seem to have them :)

It seems that the next Android version (6.0) will be named "Marshmallow"...

Maybe they should call it "Marvelous Mindbender".
