mail notification failure
« on: April 22, 2013, 05:18:14 pm »
Despite the fact that I enabled mail notification,  no notification appears when new messages received.
Had that several times now,  that I recognize arrival of new messages not until I started aquamail to look for them.

Is that a known issue?
How to fix that?
Please advice if further data is necessary.

Are the new messages there in the app when you open it? Are they unread?

I'm try to understand if the app was checking mail in the background at all, or not... If it's an issue with scheduled mail checking not happening, or with notifications.

After investigating a bit it was clear, that there are also other apps which did not notify as intended.
Finally found the problem with the notification on my device.

So, no problem with the app in that case (which I thought of first).
Thanks for support.

I am having a similar issue here. Until recently, every time I set a message notification, it reverts to the default "No Sound" magically next day or so. It did happen a couple of times in the past but now its very frequent.

Here is what I have checked :

a. Checked my system notification sounds and everything is fine.
b. Checked and tested notification settings for other Apps and everything is working as should.

Any help will be much appreciated

@Nedal0 - sounds like the app's data storage gets changed somehow, and I am unable to reproduce this... Can I suggest reinstalling? ( you can back up your accounts first, and restore them later )

Thanks Kostya, You are right. I have tested and posted result on another thread on here. I think the issue is generally an Android one as I have explained below.

Thanks for your help and here is a copy below for others:

I have done a few tests regarding this issue and come to the following conclusion :

Issue:
1. Apps do not retain Ringer or Notification Tones after the App or Android OS is restarted hence displaying "No Sound" in the AquaMail main notification settings.
2. Ringer and Notification Tones on Memory Card or Imported into default folder always tend to reset when Android OS or the associated App is restarted.

Reason:
From the info I have gathered, this happens because the Android OS always loads the Memory Card upon restart and for some reason most Apps are not able to pick the tones from the Memory Card, hence the "Unknown" or "No Sound" status.

Solution:
To avoid this situation, you are advised to use system default Ringer and Notification Tones as they do not reproduce the issue. I have tested this myself over days and haven't had the issue even after restarting the phone.

Hopefully this helps other out there as the issue is definitely not an AquaMail issue but rather the Android OS itself.
