I am currently evaluating AquaMail.

When I setup a new account at gmail.com then it seems to me that AquaMail AUTOMATICALLY chooses IMAP as access protocol.

I don't want IMAP ! I want POP3!

Can I somehow switch to POP3(S)?

Furthermore when I fetch emails by POP3 with AquaMail from email server I want to leave the emails on the mail server.

The reason is that AquaMail should be only my second email client when I am out of office/enroute.

When I am back in office I want to fetch the emails with my primary email client (Outlook/Thunderbird).

Is this possible?

Peter

You can add the account as "Internet Mail" type and then you'll be able to change to POP3.

Please be aware of:

Without it, Gmail's POP3 returns each message once and only once -- so after whichever mail app sees a particular message first, the others won't.

@Kostya Vasilyev:

Thank you for reply.

Can I turn an EXISTING account AFTER creation into an "Internet Mail" type (if yes: how?)?

Or do I really have to delete and re-create it?

Thank you for the hint with the "recent:" handling of Gmail! I have never heard of it.

No, unfortunately,  it is not possible to convert the existing Aquamail account to a different type of connection.
But you can first create a new one and then remove the old one. (That assumes that you have only one account set in Aquamail, as the free version is limited to two accounts. )

No in place conversion, delete and re-create only.

And I'm not aware of any mail app (mobile or desktop) which would let you switch between IMAP and POP3 without re-creating the account.

A user's advice : use IMAP for Gmail accounts. Don't use POP3 for Gmail accounts.

+1

But of course it's your decision. Please be sure to use "recent" though.

Ok, thank you.

I created a POP3 account and deleted the old IMAP:

However the account inside AquaMail look equal to the previous one.

Assume I would not know that the current account access method is now POP3: Can I find it out somehow?
I looked in the "Acount setup" but found no expected "access through POP3" or similar indicator.

How else can I find it out?

Long press on Account name > Options and folders > depending on the account's setup you will find an item "POP3 options" or "IMAP options"
(screenshot #1)

You can find the account's protocol also in the account setup settings itself (screenshot #2):

Long press on Account name > Account setup > press" MANUAL" > in the very first line "Server type" = POP3 or IMAP

For a Gmail account, please be sure to choose "Internet Mail" type when adding the account -- "Gmail / Google Apps" is hardwired to use IMAP.

Then, after entering your @gmail address and the password, press Manual not Next -- and you'll be able to change IMAP to POP3 on the next screen.

Please don't forget to add "recent:" to the incoming server login on that screen.
