AquaMail Pro on Pixel XL running Android 7.x Problem
« on: October 26, 2016, 05:43:26 am »
I seem to be getting constant mail scheduled check problems over wi-fi, since using AquaMail on the Pixel XL phone. Checks are set for every 15 minutes.

Where it shows "last mail check time", they are sometimes in red with exclamation marks - example:

   "Account Name"

So I assume a failed check for mail at that time.

I went back to my older Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 6.0.1 for 24 hours - and there were no such issues.

I can therefore only presume it is an Android 7.x problem with the AquaMail app.

Are there plans for an update to AquaMail for usage on Android 7.x phones? Or is there another fix perhaps?

Your phones might not have identical settings.
I would suggest to check a few settings:
1. Battery optimizations - read the FAQ item "Persistent network errors or the app not checking mail (any phone, with specifics for Android 6+, MIUI, Huawei)" that explains this in detail.

Please check AquaMail settings -> network and make sure that the one that mentions "DNS" (second from the top) is *enabled*. But then it is enabled by default.

Who is your e-mail provider?

I actually cloud the app backup settings, so that whichever phone I use, it sets-up the app correctly and consistantly with correct email settings, etc.

It has worked flawlessly on Note 4, S7 Edge and Note 7 using Android 5.x/6.x. This issue has only happened since using Pixel XL/Android 7.x.

1. Will check this out....

2. iiNet, Gmail, Bigpond and work emails - all through wi-fi. Noticed this problem when only using wi-Fi.

Cheers.

Edit: OK...since I did the battery optimisation reset, it seems to be OK now with wi-fi mail check at home. Hopefully it will be good when I return to work tomorrow also.

Those "red" times indicate that the app ran into network errors when checking mail.

And yes, unless the app is excluded from "Doze Mode", Android will block and cut off the app's access to the network.

Indeed, and that seems to have been the case. Now working great again.
