Lock Screen Notifications (Android 5.0 / Lollipop)
« on: February 04, 2015, 10:12:47 pm »
1) I want to the IMAP Push notification to not show on the lock screen. The only way I can seem to get rid of it there is to disable it entirely in the Look & Feel section. Not a good solution; I still want to be able to see that I'm connected to the email server! Is there a way to fix this that I'm missing? Can this be added so it shows in the status bar, but not the lock screen?

2) When receiving emails, I want to be able to see an email summary, like how GMail works, on the lock screen. Right now it only works for single unread emails, but I'd like to be able to either a) get notifications for each email, or b) show a combined summary like how GMail does it. Is this possible?

If it matters, I have the paid version of Aquamail.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

1 - From what I can tell, the Android team decided to mirror any and all status bar notifications to the lock screen.

I'm not aware of any "flag" when posting a notification -- to indicate that it should show in the status bar and not show on the lock screen.

2 -  Android may collapse notifications, removing previews and buttons. Can happen to any app, as "decided" by system code.

To expand a collapsed notification, on 5.0, swipe it down (like scrolling, tap and move your finger down without letting go).

Attached screenshots:

- Gmail and AquaMail notifications, collapsed (initial state).
- Gmail and AquaMail notificatioins, expanded

Both show sender and subject for each of two new unread messages.

Thanks for the replies!!

1) Okay, fair enough. What about an idea for a feature then; show an alert icon in the status bar if I'm DISCONNECTED, maybe a red icon to alert that I've lost connection to the mail server.
Summary of new feature, Disconnected Alert Status Icon: No icon = okay, red icon = disconnected, or something like that.

2) Wow, thank you!! I had no idea I could do that! That is amazing :)

Thanks again for the help! Very glad I bought this software. :)

Hi,

I think you need to set the priority to MIN to have a hidden notification (like the one for Android Wear):
(here could be a link to Android's developer site ;) - have a look at their design/pattern/notifications.html for reference)

Would be great, if you could change that. I switch from Kaiten yesterday. And everything looks great but this icon is really kind of bugging me.

Yes, new in Android as of 4.3 (IIRC). Already tried, works fine on Nexus devices, but notification still showed on HTC's.

Too device specific to be useful.

What about my feature request to have an option to show an alert icon if we're disconnected from the imap server?

Maybe.

Please note that normally when push is active, scheduled mail checks will skip any folders currently running in push mode. And don't skip folders that are push enabled but aren't currently running in push mode right now.
