how can i achieve the following?
when i mark and then delete several unread e-mails (meaning they are moved to the trash IMAP folder) they still are marked as unread. however, i need them to be marked as read automatically after deleting/moving.

There was a time when the app was marking messages "read" automatically when moving to Deleted.

However, due to strong user pressure, I had to make it work like it does now, which seems to be in line with the majority of web mail services and other mail apps. This is, moving a message into Deleted does not change the read/unread state.

hi kostya

thank you for your answer.

why is asked this is because i am using apple mail (on the desktops). apple mail does highlight folders with unread messages inside quite visible, even the trash bin. so when i delete messages with aqua mail, later on the desktop  i have a highlighted trash bin in apple mail and i have to make unread these messages by hand. that's not very comfortable, isn't it?
so i would be happy to set this behaviour in the preferences.

i don't know where this other kind of thinking in this matter is coming from. clearly it's not compatible with apple mail.

kind regards,

daniel

Would it be possible to provide this feature as an option in the settings?

You mean Apple mail does not have a setting to *not* highlight these folders?

How come?

:) :) :)

Yes, I've written this down to bring back "mark read when moving to deleted" as a optional setting. Sigh.

It seems that this optional setting is still on your 'to do' list  :'(

I ask because it is the same problem here when you sync the Aquamail thrash with your IMAP trash ... Then the mails deleted in Aquamail without reading are also flagged as unread in other applications (like Roundcube, Evolution, Firefox) .... this is confusing me :)

Hi Mathias,
In the meantime this option is already implemented by Kostya:
> Settings > Mail, other > enable the first option "Mark read when deleting"

Just a side note: I am amazed how people are obsessed to have no "unread" messages even in the Trash.
I understand the workflow when people might want to have no unread messages in the Inbox, - where "unread" is an indication for them to read or deal (save to a folder, delete) with those messages.
But Trash? Yes, that folder can be highlighted that it has unread messages, so what?! It is not that you would normally look in the Trash for messages that you need to read. I guess it is just some type of OCD.
So, it's nice of Kostya that he made it configurable for those users.

I'm equally amazed by people with hundreds or thousands of unread messages in their inbox :)

"I see one person like that every morning while shaving"

Phew. I don't (every morning while shaving) so this must not be very common, or else there'd be one where I live too.
