Aquamail Pro is killing my battery life
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:28:35 am »
Phone: LG G2, running 4.2.2

Of all the email apps I've tried, this is by far my favorite, except it really kills my battery life.

As a test, I've installed and uninstalled several times and it is always the same.

I will charge my phone before going bed just to be consistent to 100 percent and unplug at 11:30 pm.

When I wake up at 7:30 am, I check my phone.

Without Aquamail, my battery life percent is 95-96 percent
With Aquamail, my battery life percent is 79-80 percent

In every other respect the phone is the same--even placed in the exact same place.

During the day, the battery degradation is noticeably accelerated.

Is there some sort of setting to minimize battery use?

I am using the default settings with only two accounts.  20 percent over night seems a bit extreme.

First, please check system settings -> battery and see if my app is listed, and at what percent.

Second, two common causes for high battery use are:

1 - Excessively high "messages per page" setting. This is how many recent messages the app keeps up to date, every time it checks mail. The default is 25. Anything over 100 can have an effect on the battery.

2 - Too many folders set to sync, esp. with IMAP IDLE (push mail).

Dear Developer,

I have same problem. You can see on the attached picture that the screen is working double as long as Aquamail. I think it is not normal.

I'm sending the details about the settings of Aquamail:
  • Message per page: Standard (25)
  • Message to keep per folder: 250 messages
  • Accounts: 4
  • 1 folder is synced via IMAP
  • 48 folder are synced by schedule
  • Sync even when "Auto-Sync": checked
  • Schedules check: checked
  • Mail check interval: 5 minutes
  • When the app is active:  unchecked
  • Only when screen is off: unchecked
  • wifi is sleep mode: unchecked

In case of Aquamail do you have any idea how we can increase the battery life on Android?

Thanks in advance!

You've asked the app to keep 48 folders up to date every time it checks mail.

Every five minutes.

That's quite a lot of work.
