Outlook invites to calendar
« on: October 12, 2013, 07:33:17 am »
I'm new to Aquamail and, in fact, Android. When i get calendar invites sometimes they seem to add to my calendar and sometimes they don't. When I open/accept the invite, there is a box at the bottom that you can check that says "add to calendar if accepted"; when I check it, it shows up on calendar . But other times the box is grayed out and it says "already added to calendar" and I don't have the option of checking it; when that happens the invite doesn't show up on calendar.  I asked the sender and they aren't doing anything different when they send the invite. What makes that box grayed out on some of the invites?  They all default to gmail calendar.  Thanks in advance.

Just as an FYI, calendar invites are a very recent addition to AquaMail and it is possible that you're seeing a bug.

Not played with them myself yet but thought I should at least let you know since it may be a few days before Kostya gets back to you this post.

Ok thanks. Like I said this is all new to me (came from the BlackBerry world).  It's a bit frustrating but I look forward to a solution. Thanks for heads up.

Quick update - one thing I noticed today is that the box is grayed out and it says "already added to calendar" when a calendar update is sent.  In other words, the original calendar invite lets me check the box and the invite shows up on my calendar.  Then if the invite is updated, I don't have the option and it does NOT change the calendar.  So the original calendar invite stays incorrectly unchanged.

This has happened a few times and thought this may shed some light on the issue.  Thank you.

Have you tried the development versions?
I believe that was fixed there.

I had an IT guy setup my phone/outlook sync when I first got it.  He selected AquaMail as the app for outlook, so to be honest, I'm not sure if I have the development version or not.  When reviewing the app, it appears I have version 1.2.5.5.  Is that the correct version?  If not, is the development version easy to update or do I need to uninstall and reinstall a new version?  Pardon my ignorance on this....

1.2.5.5 is the latest officially released version. There are more recent versions on this forum here.

Back to the original issue:

1) Depends on which Android version you're running. Only Android 4.2 and higher lets my code detect updates to existing events.

2) And then, showing updates events as such, and updating your device's calendar was added in one of the recent development versions of AquaMail.

Another question related to calendars.  Is there a way to send a calendar invite through Aqua Mail (thereby requesting the invite through my Outlook account)?  When I send calendar invites they all go through my Google account and I don't have the option of sending them through Outlook via the pulldown menu.  If it matters: I don't use an Exchange Server account through Outlook; I'm using an HTC One; I have the free version of Aqua Mail.  Thanks in advance.

Unless Kostya builds a different calendar service I'm afraid Google want us to use their platform for invites.
And the one sending the invites is not your mail client but Google platform.
I couldn't find a way to do what you ask unless you use their service. :(

Thanks - Android is new to me - been on Blackberry forever.  Are there any paid services out there that completely separate from Google?  I ultimately want my Outlook email to operate separately in all facets (calendar, email, contacts) from my Google email.  So when I send an Outlook invite, it appears that is came from my desktop.  Then everything would sync nicely together on my phone.  I only use Google for my personal gmail account - but it appears I have to force everything through Google.

I'm no IT guy and use my phone 95% of the time for business.  Getting everything to sync while operating independent has been a thorn in my side......like I said, IT is clearly not my specialty.  I'm willing to pay for the right service to solves my needs.  Thanks again.

I come from BlackBerry as well and meetings management is the thing I miss the most (STILL after two years of that change). Don't get me wrong; I wouldn't return to BB even if they pay me. :P

I don't know if there is some app that handles another calendar service. Maybe you can try some.
Business Calendar comes to my mind (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=netgenius.bizcal) and has really good ratings.

I don't know much about Outlook alternatives as I'm on another mail platform. I sync my contacts and calendar with my mail client (Postbox) but still can't make the client send the invites from my business account, being the PC or the Phone. It's an issue with Google calendar service.

It'd technically possible for a mail app to send ical invites, but that has not been build into AquaMail, sorry. For this to be useful, it would need a whole bunch of accompanying features.

How can I update canceled Invitations to my Calendar? (Invitations with new date / time, but the same Event)
I always get the message that the Invitation is already available and the Box is grayed out and it says 'already added to calendar'!

Cancelations? I don't know :)

That would be something for me to try to see how it's encoded in the iCal files... and then add a Cancel / Remove from Calendar button.

This sounds like the question I updated on 10/14/13?  It happens to me when the original calendar invite is updated, but I don't have an option to update on my calendar - the date/time never changes from the original acceptance date/time.  I did not try to update the app to the development version yet.  I'm still using the original Version 1.2.5.5.

Separate question related to calendar invites - when I accept an invite, it appears that the time shown on my phone is an hour behind the invite.  For example, the invite comes in as 10AM-11AM on Outlook.  When I accept it on my phone, it shows up as 9AM-10AM on my phone calendar.  Is this related to a time setting on the app?  The time is set correctly on my phone which leads me to believe it is related to the app.  I'm located in Eastern Time Zone if that matters.
