Error checking mail when on 4G
« on: October 16, 2014, 07:52:46 pm »
I have a problem with a POP3 account. It works fine when my phone is on wifi, but when I am on 4G, I get an error checking mail. This doesn't always happen, but it happens more times that not. I am using the Pro version.

Are you using a Gmail account?

No, it's a Road Runner account.

I know that it's hard to believe that when an app (a mail app) reports an error that has to do with connectivity -- it actually does have to do with connectivity.

The servers that Aqua 1.5.0 uses automatically are:

- for @roadrunner.com, "pop-server.roadrunner.com", port 110, no encryption (strange, but...)

- for @state.rr.com, "pop-server.state.rr.com", port 110, no encryption (strange, but...)

Those were copied from stock Android Email and K9.

There are newer settings, automatically used when adding @rr or @roadrunner into Aqua 1.5.1 (this version has so far only been posted on this forum):

- for both @roadrunner.com and @state.rr.com, it's now:

- "mail.twc.com"
- IMAP: SSL encryption (better late than never), port 993
- POP3: SSL, port 995
- SMTP (sending): STARTLS, port 587

You may want to try these newer settings instead (long press  the account -> account setup -> Manual)...

...except I'm unable to connect to any of these (just to see if connecting would work), with SSL encryption, or without...

I'm pretty far from TWC's service area, but mail servers are usually available from anywhere (travel).

So that's not a good sign either.

Official settings page lists mail.twc.com, without any encryption (port 143 for IMAP and 110 for POP3). I've tried connecting like that as well, no luck.

Still --
