Getting IMAP folders / Gmail Labels to synchronise properly
« on: April 04, 2013, 03:19:17 pm »
Hello. I do apologise if this question has been asked and answered before  - I haven't found it in my search, hence my posting.

I am finding it impossible to get Aquamail to properly synchronise with my Gmail 'folders' using IMAP. I keep finding that when I move a message from one 'folder' to another using Gmail's web interface, this is not reflected in the folders in Aquamail.

This is also the case when I use Outlook to move emails around - the Gmail web interface properly reflects the change, but Aquamail does not.

Oddly, when I use Aquamail to move a message into a subfolder, that change is reflected  both in Gmail on the web and in Outlook. However, when I then move the email back from the subfolder into the Inbox (using Outlook or the web interface) I end up with two copies of the email in Aquamail - one in the subfolder and one in the Inbox. The email is being duplicated and not properly moved from one place to another.

I keep thinking that there must be some obvious setting that I'm missing, but I just can't get this to work properly.

I just want my IMAP folders in Aquamail to be the same as they are in Outlook and the same as the labels on the web, and when I make a change in Aquamail I want it to be properly reflected in the Outlook and on the web. I'm sure this is possible somehow, but I'm clearly missing it.

I hope this makes sense and would be most grateful if someone could tell me what I need to do.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Duplicate messages are possible if you're syncing [Gmail]/All mail in AquaMail, which is not something that I recommend doing (for this reason precisely).

Otherwise, after a message is moved using web mail or outlook, it should have a new a label added and old label removed (you can check in web mail). This should sync to AquaMail after the next account sync (both folders should sync).

Oh, it wouldn't hurt to long press the account in AquaMail, choose Options and Folders, and make sure that "Remove deleted messages" is enabled. Now when I think about it, this setting being off could cause apparent duplicates too.
