Actually, spam (and deleted) folders are not scanned for addresses.

But you're right, I'm not sure if this should be enabled by default.

Since Spam and Deleted folders are not scanned for recent addresses I would suggest:

And where is the gentleman who recently brought up recent addresses and how they get saved into "My Contacts" -- "creating a mess"?

I can understand your concerns for an average user and therefore it might be useful to disable this option by default.

Kostya, let me answer your inquiry.

Personally, I wouldn't want that to be enabled by default. With some of the accounts, I am getting so much "noise", that it would overwhelm this feature.
(And in 1-2 accounts, for convenience, I mapped a folder where I save all this noise as "archive", so, I don't want those messages to be analyzed either.)

If I were making the design decision, I'd do this "harvesting" only from the recent "Sent" messages. And then if the incoming message is recent, I can always find it and go from there.

But I can see that some other people might have a different modus operandi.

As we had discussed it in these forums, many users don't even know Where The FAQ is...

When a spam message arrives, it rarely goes directly to Spam folder by itself. Often it will land in the Inbox, and the average user will ignore it, or maybe delete it, and if the user gets tens of spams daily in their inbox, this user will probably leave some of them in the inbox... 

That's an excellent example. In a similar situation, I once had almost sent a sensitive message to a spoofed address used in a SPAM message: Thunderbird offered me that address, and alphabetically, it was earlier than the real one.

Another situation where the discussed option should be off: when the user sets by himself filters to move spams or annoying messages or unimportant messages (advertisements) to a separate folder. This user will sync this folder, just to check from tile to time that some important message had not landed there.

That's very similar to what I described in the message I just posted.

StR - thanks for the feedback.

Now that the setting is off by default, I expect it should not do so much harm.

On the other hand, there are users who want this "recent addresses" feature, and presumably will use it -- so wrt. to Sent vs. all folders, I'll go with their feedback, from actual use.

PS - I think it all goes back to Samsung's mail app...
