JPG attachments never download
« on: December 27, 2014, 10:09:47 pm »
I have the latest build.
All Emails that are downloaded by the s/w are downloaded without the JPG attachments.
Downloading those emails by my PC client shows all the attachments.
WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ?

There is a setting to choose weather you want to retrieve images when using 3g or not I would assume you have it ticked

First of all: Your request is NOT a bug 8)

You can proof the settings for attachments here:
> Long press on account name > Options and folders > Preload > Attachments, ... > you can set different sizes for WiFi,  3G+ and 2G

Please repeat these steps for each account.

For details see attached screenshots (the first one will be shown after "long press on account name")

Only thing that was different is the command batch size.
Changed it from small to large.
Yet no images arrive with the email.

IMAP is not an option with the servers I use.
Why should I remove the account ? why changing those parameters isn't enough ?

IMAP can't work with the server.
Deleted the account & added it again.
No change - same behavior.

Same behavior is experienced with Wi-Fi & over cellular network.

Please send the log file to kmansoft / at sign / gmail / dot com (and disable logging afterwards). The log filed is called log-AquaMail.txt and is stored at the root of your device’s memory card or large built-in storage.

As of 1.2.5.0, attaching logs is easy: there is a menu item for this in the compose window (last one).

The log does not contain your email account passwords.

And for the record, this behaviour is a normal anti-spam measure for email programs, and should ideally be left as the default IMHO. If all messages are set to auto-display linked images, then spammers can detect as soon as their linked image is downloaded from their server, and so they know they've found a live email address that is being read by a person. Best to avoid letting them know this if you can.

I have my AquaMail set to auto-display images from certain known email usernames only (it's very easy to update when you first receive a message from a new person, just tap on the prompt at the top of the message to set their email address as approved) but my default is set to not show images.

@andrewilley:
Thank you for your detailed explanations regarding "embedded images".

But I'm still not sure if drukman did not rather have a problem only with the attachments:

I have the latest build.
All Emails that are downloaded by the s/w are downloaded without the JPG attachments .
Downloading those emails by my PC client shows all the attachments .
WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ?

However drukman switched later to (embedded?) images:

Only thing that was different is the command batch size.
Changed it from small to large.
Yet no images arrive with the email.

So for me it's not clear which issue he really has...  8) 8)

All
Here is an important update.

I just did something else:
1. Sent an email from Simple Mail (it's a Firefox add-on that acts as an email program)
2. Sent an email from outlook

I than tried to retrieved those emails by various mail programs.....
1. All managed to retrieve images from BOTH emails mentioned above (1 and 2).
2. Aqua mail managed to retrieve images only from the email sent by Outlook (number 2 above) BUT failed to retrieve the email sent by Simple Mail (number 1 above0.

To me it looks like messages sent by Simple Mail are "stripped" from some crucial info that Aqua Mail needs in order to fully download the image attachments.
Otherwise why other email clients can retrieve those email in full including the attached imaged while Aqua mail doesn't ?
Before answering please remember that Aqua mail managed to successfully download all images from emails sent by Outlook.

Drukman.

Do you think he has an issue with "lover bar" ? ;)

Nobody knows...

But seriously it's really a problem if you have to use POP3 with several devices... PC and mobil device... because of POP3's strange behavior in this situation...
