It's when linked images are blocked -- so a "generic" image shows instead.

Previously we used a real image - which was getting scaled to same exact size as the "real" image (which wasn't there). This looked ugly.

Now we use a deliberately invalid URL which makes WebView display a small "error" image and it's *not* scaled same as the "real" image is, looks much "cleaner".

Kostya, what's a placeholder for blocked images? Thank you
@Paris Geek
There was also a discussion about "images not shown in some messages" recently:

Re: Fixes to message auto-fit

Can you biefly elaborate and/or point to thread(s) where this is being discussed?

Preliminary testing suggests this addresses the imbedded image mis-formatting I reported several months ago. In fairness I never submitted a sample email in the requested format so the dev team had nothing to work with at the time.

Hi, please look at the screenshot. This is one of the fixes: the message was not being displayed as expected, now it's correctly shown.
Thanks for sharing. Don't believe I have observed this anomaly but the 'fix' seems to have addressed my specific issue which yielded an incorrect aspect issue on imbedded downscaled images. In short, some images were vertically by not horizontally scalled in portrait orientation. Rotating to horizontal fixed the problem. With 384-dev images scale down correctly on the first attempt. Nice 😉.

There was one specific scenario where an image could get fitted to screen width, but if the message as a whole still didn't fit, it (the message) would get zoomed out, and so the image would be 1) fitted and 2) zoomed out -> become smaller than screen width.

Similar to the error in @Paris Geek's sample above, but with an image, not text.

Thanks. Unfortunately, further testing revealed the auto-fit scalling problem described above still exists in 384-dev. I understand addressing this particular scenerio was not part of the 384 solution space. Just reporting as FYI (and another indirect plug to restore text reflow option which proved handy when auto-fit is disabled).

Could you send one of these messages as an .eml attachment (or original message source, also as an attachment) to support / at / aqua-mail / dot com?

Assuming AquaMail can not natively generate an .eml so will need to snag with a Microsoft product. Unless there is another way to do it with a AM or a web client. Guessing 'show headers' export isn't sufficient.

No "show headers" won't be enough.

Web mail should work - just look for "show original", "show message source", etc. In Gmail web mail is under the menu icon that's right next to the reply "arrow" icon (when you open a message).

I use Aqua mail on a Galaxy S3 with Lineage OS 14.1 without problem.
In waiting my next new phone, I must give away the S3 and I'm forced to use an old Galaxy S1 with Lineage OS, an unofficial version with Android 4.4.4 (it's a modified version of CM11).
Installed the 384 and 387 version of Aqua mail.
All seems to work, but there is a notification about "Push mail" always visibile (it's not so on the S3).
I attach two screenshot.
Is there an option to hide this?

I tried to add email addresses that belong to a group. It is difficult to add addresses because I didn't find the Accept or Cancel button.

I am adding a screenshot.

Kostya,

This is a nice to have:

It would be nice if notifications (with Push enabled) would be updated as well. That is, if an email is read on another device, that notification would be removed from the list of notifications. I've only seen this in the Tasks & Notes for MS Exchange app.

It's worked that way for years.

You must have have other (older) unread messages that keep your notification posted -- but be seeing your messages turn read when you read them in another mail app.

And then - one way is to impose some self-discipline and finally mark those unread messages from 5 years back as "read".

- another is to switch Aqua to notify you about "new" (not "all") unread messages. App settings -> message notifications -> notify about.

yes, with a side effect: when, in notification list, a message is marked read (with another email app, or in the notification), the app plays notification sound and vibrates. Android 7, notify about new unread messages. Same as Gmail app :(

Ok, but I have unchecked sound and vibration options. So it works very good...

Update (2+ days): really enjoying the revamped autofit which I can now enable on all devices. Certainly nice not having to pinch shrink 10-15% of my incoming mail. All messages/images now scale correctly with no distortion.

Hello Kostya,

Regarding notifications, I want to suggest some words for the Spanish Translation, due there is not enough space for the words that appear with notifications. I am attaching the screenshots.

The screenshot 1 is perfect because all sentences help to understand the action, just the words that appear on notifications, I added a red box to show them, there is not enough space to read the complete phrase.

1. Responder: it is Ok, Responder.
2. Eliminar (la opción de eliminación de la cuenta): Borrar.
3. Mover a Archivo (I didn't undestand this feature).
4. Archivar o eliminar (dependiendo de la cuenta): It could be the same, you could use just Archivar.
5. Marcar como leído: Leído.
6. Mover a correo no deseado: Spam

Regards.

Thanks Davey126.

It was an interesting case -- the message sample you sent me already had "responsive design" but intended for iPhone's, which have slightly different screen sizes.

So on Android (including my phones) it "almost" fit but not quite.

I added a "special case" for how the auto-fit code handles such ("doesn't quite fit but close") cases.

Thanks. For actions in notifications, I went with:

<string name="action_op_delete_now">Eliminar</string>
<string name="action_op_to_deleted">Borrar</string>
<string name="action_op_to_spam">Spam</string>
<string name="action_op_to_archive">Archivar</string>
<string name="action_op_hide">Ocultar</string>
<string name="action_op_as_read">Leído</string>

"Archive or move to deleted (depending on account settings)" is for *swiping* and is resolved to one or the other ("archive" or "swipe") in the actual message lists.

And these are used in menus, can be more verbose than those in notifications (more space):

<string name="message_list_op_as_read">Marcar como leído</string>
<string name="message_list_op_as_unread">Marcar como no leído</string>
<string name="message_list_op_as_star">Marcar con estrella</string>
<string name="message_list_op_as_unstar">Quitar estrella</string>

Is there a better way to translate these? Maybe without "marcar" every time (which I do understand means "mark"), just "as unread", "as read"? Would that "feel" OK?

And then we have these, also in message list menus:

    <string name="message_list_op_move_deleted">Mover a Eliminados</string>
    <string name="message_list_op_move_spam">Mover a Correo no deseado</string>
    <string name="message_list_op_move_archive">Mover a Archivo</string>

It looks like the one for "spam" is not like the other two, even though all three are "move to ...".

Is there a better way, something like "Mover a Spam" (since you already used the exact term Spam in your suggestion above)?

Post by: hzamora on May 20, 2017, 09:36:18 pm
I think that in menus all are ok, because there are enough space.

Marcar means mark and it is ok to write as Marcar como leído.

I don't understand the difference between:
<string name="action_op_delete_now">Eliminar</string>
<string name="action_op_to_deleted">Borrar</string>

"Eliminar" is almost equal to "Borrar" if you like, instead of Borrar you can write Eliminar. I think we use more frequently Borrar, but Eliminar is ok too. Eliminar is like deleting permanently, and Borrar is like moving to the Trash folder.

For SPAM, on notifications, you can use "No Deseado", I mean, just to use few letters that we can understand. If we see "Spam" (in Spanish) we understand that if we press "Spam" or "No Deseado", that email will be moved to the Spam folder. "Spam" is shorter than "No deseado".

Other solution could be use like Spanish Gmail words:
"Papelera" is the trash folder, if I delete an email, it is sent to Papelera, so on notifications you can use "Papelera" when you want to delete (not permanently) that email.

The other word is Spam (junk folder), "No Deseado"

Regards.

I don't understand the difference between:
<string name="action_op_delete_now">Eliminar</string>
<string name="action_op_to_deleted">Borrar</string>

1 - Both of these are for action buttons in notifications, so have to be short

2 - action_op_delete_now is "delete right now without moving to deleted or anything, just - poof and it's gone"

3 - action_op_to_deleted is "move to deleted folder"

Apps that don't have this distinction can use "delete" everywhere. We can't.

Quote

Or, so both Spam or No Deseado will be understood?

Because there are longer (fuller) strings for same actions in message lists:

Quote
    <string name="message_list_op_move_deleted">Mover a Eliminados</string>
    <string name="message_list_op_move_spam">Mover a Correo no deseado</string>
    <string name="message_list_op_move_archive">Mover a Archivo</string>

Quote
"Papelera" is the trash folder, if I delete an email, it is sent to Papelera, so on notifications you can use "Papelera" when you want to delete (not permanently) that email.

OK, that's good - "trash" is better (shorter, easier to understand) than "Eliminados" I guess.

And therefore I'm going to try:

- Actions in notifications:

<string name="action_op_delete_now">Eliminar</string>
<string name="action_op_to_deleted">Papelera</string>
<string name="action_op_to_spam">Spam</string>

- Actions in message lists (can be longer than in notifications, more room):

<string name="message_list_op_move_deleted">Mover a Papelera</string>
<string name="message_list_op_move_spam">Mover a Spam</string>
<string name="message_list_op_move_archive">Mover a Archivo</string>

- Will also update the "Deleted" folder name.

---

I'm going to make these changes and post a new build shortly.

It works fine, I tested using my outlook and gmail account.

With Gmail there is no difference between Eliminar and Archivar o eliminar, both moved the email to Papelera.

I see an option on the menu (message view): Eliminar permanentemente, I see that when I select this option, this email is deleted permanently from my account. I think this the Eliminar option that I was asking before. But it appears at the menu level.

However I think there is an issue because I have marked on: "confirm before delete permanently" and when I select from menu, AM doesn't ask before deleting.

I understood, it is because I marked on the "undo" option.

Re: I don't understand the difference between 2 and 3.

Um, let me try again:

"delete now" - "eliminar permanente" - does not move a message to the Deleted (Trash) folder, it really "deletes right away"

and "move to deleted" - is "move to Papelera"
