Custom folders, rules and more
« on: March 29, 2013, 07:48:07 pm »
(Sorry if some or all of this already have been asked for).

- Folders and rules:
I'd love to be able to make custom local folders connected to rules that automatically sort incoming mail for me. This is default for any desktop mail software, but I have not yet seen it in any (Android) app. Maybe there is a good reason, but if it's possible to add this, it would make Aquamail a real killer app.

- Pattern code:
The pin code is a great feature, but would it be possible to add a pattern codelock as well? I find it much easier to remember, and quicker to enter too.

- Background color of unread messages:
I believe the background color of read messages in the inbox is confusing. To me, gray indicates that I've selected something. Even though I know this is not the case, it still confuses me. My suggestion is to make this a user setting. Either the ability to change the color or to disable it completely.
I'm not even sure a color is needed - I think bold text for unread mails is enough.

Hi,

- Pattern - maybe, just not a top priority right now.

- Local folders - no (I just posted a more detailed response in this section).

- "Select" is blue, a standard Android color pattern since 3.0 (they call it "Holo" UI style), and also used by my app on 2.*. You can switch the colors around in the app's settings (extended mode, under "Message list").

I think that people are demanding desktop features by now from a mobile client that was meant to be a secondary home for your mail. In the future it might take the primary place from the desktop client and at that time these features would be required. Being said that, I don't think we need to spend a lot of time on that yet as there are many other things that need attention first.

Many thanks for your reply. It's easy just to complain or ask for new functions - I forgot to tell how pleased I am with this app to begin with. In my opinion, Aquamail is the first useful (and affordable) email app for Android.

About the color; I'm using Android 4, and on my phone the color is very gray. However, I use a custom ROM, so maybe that has something to do with it (?).

I read just the other day that tablets now sell more than laptops in Sweden (where I live). Pretty soon the mobile client will be the main client for most people. If not already.

A custom ROM? Yes, maybe, since the app picks up the selection color from the system theme (for Android 3.0 and above).
